Today we’d like to introduce you to Golibe Nwigwe.
Hi Golibe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey to beauty started in 2016 while preparing for my high school graduation. My mother was not in support of paying a makeup artist to get my makeup done as a 17 year old , she thought I was too young so she gave me the option of either letting her do my makeup or learning how to do makeup. I chose the latter and had two weeks to learn makeup artistry. In the process of learning , I started enjoying trying out new looks and seeing the outcome , this led to the start of my content creation career.
My content creation career officially started with beauty influencing in 2019 during my final year of college as makeup was my main niche. I would create variety of looks everyday , from soft glam to full glam makeup , smokey eyes , cut crease , vibrant and colourful eyeshadow looks , matching my makeup to my hair colour trends , and many more. A year after turning my makeup hobby into a career I started getting noticed by international brands and received collaboration opportunities from brands like colorpop cosmetics , Uoma beauty , Merit beauty and successfully partnered with Lancôme , Pinterest , Morphe brushes and Ilia beauty by the year 2021. All of these happened while I lived in Nigeria.
In 2022, at 23 years old, I relocated to the United States alone and faced great struggles with trying to find my footing as I had to start life afresh after living in Nigeria all my life. I had to get two jobs and worked as a Sephora beauty advisor while pursuing a career in mental healthcare. At this point in my life I started considering the possibility of pivoting from content creation to solely working in healthcare because I would barely have time to create content after working at the clinic Mon – Fri and at Sephora Sat – Sun.
I had what I would now describe as a ‘life changing experience’ when my instagram account which was where I mostly shared content as a creator was taken down and I had to decide whether getting it back was worth it. In that moment I began to think about all the pending tutorials my supporters had requested and were waiting patiently for , all the people that had watched me grow and grew with me and all the effort I had put into this growing career from 2019 till 2024, I then made the decision to get my account back and give it one last try.
So , I started sharing what happened behind the scenes of my life and how I tried balancing content creation with my other jobs. I would share challenges I faced , future plans for my career , my vision boards and the brands I looked forward to working with. Within less than 6 months I saw a significant growth as my audience grew , brand visibility expanded and partnership opportunities flooded in regularly.
This year I took my career a step further and launched my first Ebook titled “The Successful Creator”, a book to help starter , existing and seasoned creators upscale their career. A book that answers all the questions I wanted to ask but didn’t know who to ask and the ones I asked but never got the answers to when I started my career in 2019.
Now that my brand is entering its expansion phase, our focus is on building a community that empowers creators to confidently navigate the industry, establish a strong foundation, and achieve sustainable growth. I host series such as “We Got This” and “In Your Bag,” on my social media platforms where I share practical insights on managing finances, balancing content creation with a 9-to-5, creating structure and systems, increasing brand visibility, understanding your value as a creator and learning how and what to charge brands. My goal is to equip creators with the tools, knowledge, and mindset needed to build solid foundations and create long-term success in the creator economy.
I’m excited to see my brand transform into a resourceful hub!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road , I have faced hurdles at several phases of my life while trying to grow my brand.
Because my career started in Nigeria , I lost a number of international partnership opportunities due to my location and sometimes would have to wait weeks until an international package was shipped down , leaving me little to no time to prep for content and submit in due time. I also struggled with consistency in filming as there wasn’t constant electricity supply in Nigeria.
After relocating to the States , my main challenge became finding a balance and structure between my full time job and content creating. These struggles still exist as my life is ever evolving and every year I have had to recreate my routine which sometimes can be confusing , slow and energy consuming.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Whilst being a content creator , I made the decision to pursue a career in behavioural health. In 2023 I sat for a licensing exam , passed and became a Registered Behavioral Therapist/Technician.
So who am I as a Behavioral therapist ? I like to think of it as being a friend to people who , due to their behavioral challenges , struggle with having friends. I work with mostly individuals on the Autism Spectrum with my demographics being children and young adults. My daily routine at work looks like running teaching targets and programs aimed at acquiring meaningful skills and independence, supporting my clients during challenging events and helping with identifying and demonstrating coping mechanisms to get them through a difficult moment.
I’ve had a number of people ask me why I decided to work in such a challenging field and why I don’t want to focus on content creation given that it has great revenue and growth potential . My simple answer is that this is my service on earth , i believe we are all called to do something meaningful in life and being able to help individuals facing challenges due to their mental health is my purpose. This is why it’s easy for me to get up every morning and wear my ‘behavior therapist’ hat.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t consider anything as “luck” it’s all Grace . God has continuously played a big role in my life . I also have the most supportive parents , siblings , close friends and online friends who have all had significant effects in my life and growth as a whole. I have a special community 💕.
