Today we’d like to introduce you to Bradley Ombachi.
Hi Bradley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m from Edmond, Oklahoma, where I lived for the first 18 years of my life. I’ve always loved music since taking piano lessons as a kid and playing in the church. I eventually started making beats on my phone with a few different apps I found, but once I got my hands on FL Studio I really started cooking. I was around like 15 at the time.
In high school I formed a collective called O2WorldWide with some of my friends that rap/sing, where I played the role of executive producing a few albums we released together. We were definitely inspired by collectives like Odd Future and Pro Era, but it was clear that we had an identity of our own. I know it sounds kinda crazy to think about, like an alternative hip hop collective out of Oklahoma..? But it was completely organic and I feel like that’s what made it even more special. During that time I grew into my own as a vocalist and began dropping solo material as well.
Since graduating from the University of North Texas I’m living in the DFW area now, and it’s been cool seeing some of the local art/music scene here.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha definitely not, something I struggle with as an artist is my taste evolving faster than my ability does. Bridging the skill gap takes time and is pretty frustrating. Like I just wanna learn every instrument right now.
It’s important to still take the time to sit down and walk through it though, especially with AI slop music becoming more prevalent.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make rap music but before everything else I’m a producer. Taking piano lessons gave me a pretty solid music theory foundation, so my song ideas usually begin with finding some cool chords or chopping up a sample that has a texture or sound I like. My creative process is very self-contained and DIY, everything I make is done in my bedroom with my laptop, mic, and MIDI.
I take pride in my songwriting and arranging, I love the process of nurturing an idea and seeing it evolve and take form. Lately I’ve been using voice memos a lot more to capture ideas and it’s really been a game changer. I’m always fascinated listening to artist demos because hearing something in its raw form really makes you appreciate the final version more. I feel like with my generation our attention spans are kinda cooked and songs are genuinely getting shorter and shorter but I’m still gonna be making these 3-4 minute songs I don’t care.
I’m not interested in trying to conform or hop on trends, what’s important to me is that I express myself honestly.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I take risks by always trying new sounds/techniques. Obviously not everything’s gonna stick but I think as an artist it’s important to make some mid before you make some fire. That’s how you grow.
