Meet Jatejah Phillips of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jatejah Phillips.

Hi Jatejah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My love for makeup started in 2014 when I was working at Claire’s as a sales associate. We were asked to come in more presentable with more makeup, and as a beginner, I had no idea where to start. I ultimately went to YouTube and was instantly overwhelmed, from “how to do my eyebrows” to “what’s the difference from
highlight and contour” I eventually got the hang of it and was able to confidently do my own makeup! After returning back to campus that fall, I wanted to keep getting better, so I decided to make my very own YouTube channel to help other beginners. Now, over a decade later, I have posted videos across multiple platforms and plan to continue to grow my community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After being laid off from my tech job, I found myself in a space of uncertainty and worry. Things that once brought me joy, brought me guilt — I would tell myself I could be using my time more appropriately by only focusing on the job hunt. I wasn’t myself during that time, and I’m glad to say that I’ve learned to balance the two much better now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I create content in the beauty and lifestyle space. From a get ready with me to vlogs, I aim to show women that there is so much more to life outside of being a mother or long term relationships. I believe that we should be constant evolving and pouring into ourselves, whether that be through hobbies and activities or community we’ve built, it’s vital to our survival.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people don’t know I’ve moved around a lot growing up and don’t mind continuing! I’ve lived in 5 states and multiple cities and my ultimate dream is to move to another country with my family.
