Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Tucker.
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Some of my earliest memories are sitting in the salon watching my mom do hair. I watched her transform not only people’s hairstyles but also their confidence. Clients would walk in one way and leave smiling, and even as a little girl, I knew I wanted to make people feel that same way. Looking back now, I’m proud to be continuing that legacy as a second-generation hairstylist.
I’m now 30 years old and have been a licensed cosmetologist for over 11 years. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredibly talented hairstylists throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area who have helped shape me both professionally and personally. I especially have to acknowledge the talented Wendy Swoops. Working with and learning from Wendy was an invaluable part of my journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the knowledge, mentorship, and inspiration she shared with me. Every salon, every mentor, every client, and every opportunity has contributed to the stylist and business owner I am today.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that healthy hair and beautiful styles should never be separate. That’s the foundation of everything I do. Whether I’m doing a silk press, installing extensions, braiding, coloring, caring for natural hair, or maintaining locs, my goal is always to protect the integrity of my clients’ hair while helping them feel confident, beautiful, and empowered.
Today, I operate my private salon suite under my brand, That’s Jazzy. Having my own space allows me to create a personalized experience for every client who walks through my door. I truly value the relationships I’ve built over the years, and I never take for granted the trust my clients place in me.
I’ve also been fortunate to have been an instructor at a cosmetology school, participate in hair shows, editorial and commercial photoshoots, and collaborate with brands like Luster’s Pink. I was honored to be a member of the Legion of Glam under celebrity hairstylist Terrence Davidson, an experience that challenged me creatively and professionally while exposing me to an even higher level of artistry and excellence. Although I’m no longer an active member, I’m incredibly grateful for that chapter of my career and look forward to rejoining in the future.
As much as I love creating beautiful hair, I’m building something that’s bigger than hairstyles. My vision for That’s Jazzy is to become a trusted brand known for healthy hair, exceptional service, professionalism, education, and genuine care. I want every person who sits in my chair to leave feeling seen, heard, valued, and more confident than when they arrived. My hope is that as my brand continues to grow, it will inspire others, not only to embrace healthy hair but also to pursue their passions with faith, consistency, and excellence.
When I reflect on my journey, I’m most grateful for the people who believed in me, the lessons I’ve learned, and the opportunity to do what I genuinely love every day. Being a cosmetologist has never been just a career to me, it’s my purpose. It’s a way for me to serve others, build confidence, and create meaningful connections. I’m incredibly thankful for how far I’ve come, and I truly believe this is only the beginning of what God has in store for me and for That’s Jazzy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs in the beauty industry, I’ve experienced seasons of growth that came with just as many challenges. Early on, one of my biggest struggles was building consistency by balancing my passion for doing hair with the realities of building a stable, sustainable clientele and business structure.
There were times I had to learn things the hard way, whether it was managing my time, setting boundaries, or understanding my true worth as a stylist. Learning how to confidently price my services and stand firm in that value was a major shift for me. It took time to realize that my work, experience, and dedication deserved to be respected at a higher level. One of my biggest challenges has been navigating slow seasons and the ups and downs that come with building a clientele and maintaining consistency as an independent stylist. There were times I had to pick up additional work just to stay afloat, but I never let go of my passion for doing hair or my long-term vision.
Those seasons taught me a lot about discipline, resilience, and the importance of staying committed even when things aren’t immediately showing fruit. I also had to learn how to better value my time and services, and trust that my skills and experience were worth standing on.
Even through the challenges, I never lost sight of why I started. Every setback became a lesson that helped me build a stronger foundation for my business today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Being a licensed cosmetologist with over 11 years of experience, I specialize in healthy hair care across a wide range of styles. My work includes silk presses, braids, extensions, color, natural hair care, loc maintenance, and protective styles. While I offer a variety of services, my focus is always the same—maintaining the health and integrity of the hair while creating styles that make my clients feel confident and beautiful.
What I’m most known for is my approach to healthy hair first. I don’t believe you should have to compromise the health of your hair to achieve the look you want. That philosophy is at the center of everything I do behind the chair, and it’s something my clients have come to trust me for.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built. Knowing that people choose me not just for a style, but because they trust me with their hair health and confidence, means everything to me. For me, it’s never just about doing hair—it’s about creating an experience that leaves people feeling better than when they came in.
What sets me apart is the depth of my experience within the beauty industry as a whole, not just behind the chair. In addition to hairstyling, I have experience in makeup services, modeling, and performing in hair shows, as well as working in instructional environments within the beauty field. I’ve made a point to fully immerse myself in every aspect of the beauty industry—from education and performance to hands-on artistry—which has shaped me into a more well-rounded and versatile artist. Because of that exposure, I don’t just approach hair from one perspective. I understand the artistry, the education side, the stage presence, and the client experience all together. That allows me to bring a higher level of creativity, professionalism, and intention into my everyday work.
I’m a multi-dimensional beauty professional—combining healthy hair care, creative artistry, education, and performance to deliver a full beauty experience, not just a service.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is that growth takes time, and consistency matters more than perfection.
Early in my career, I used to focus heavily on trying to get everything “right” all the time, whether it was my technique, my timing, or how quickly I was growing my clientele. Over the years, I’ve learned that success in this industry isn’t built overnight, it’s built in the quiet seasons, in the slow days, and in the moments where you choose to stay consistent even when things aren’t immediately rewarding.
I’ve also learned the importance of knowing my worth. As I grew in experience and confidence, I had to unlearn the habit of underestimating myself and really step into valuing my time, skills, and expertise.
But overall, the biggest lesson has been trusting the process. Every stage of my journey, from slow seasons to breakthroughs, has had a purpose. What once felt like setbacks were really shaping me into a stronger stylist, a better business owner, and a more grounded person.
