Today we’d like to introduce you to Floyd Brown.
Hi Floyd, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began in East Dallas, Texas, where music wasn’t just entertainment—it was part of everyday life. From an early age, I fell in love with creating music, producing records, and finding ways to make people feel something through sound. That passion eventually led me to one of the biggest moments of my career: producing and co-writing “Ice Ice Baby,” a song that became a worldwide phenomenon and forever became part of music history. I also contributed to several other records on Vanilla Ice’s multi-platinum album To The Extreme, an experience that taught me both the excitement and the realities of the music business.
Like many people in this industry, my journey wasn’t a straight line. I’ve experienced incredible highs, difficult setbacks, and moments where I had to rebuild. Through it all, I never stopped believing in my purpose. I continued to create, write, produce, DJ, and invest in myself while balancing a full-time career. Those experiences taught me that success isn’t just about one hit record—it’s about resilience, consistency, and refusing to give up on your dream.
Today, I’m the founder of ICBD Music LLC—“It Can Be Done”—and AfterShock Records, where I’m focused on developing artists, producing new music, securing licensing opportunities, and creating projects that leave a lasting impact. I’m also the creator of The Slow Jam Experience, a movement that brings people together through timeless R&B, meaningful conversations, and unforgettable live events.
At this stage of my life, my mission is bigger than making records. I want to inspire people to keep pursuing their dreams no matter their age or circumstances. Whether I’m mentoring artists, producing music, performing as DJ Earthquake, or building new opportunities in the entertainment industry, I want my story to remind people that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.
If there’s one message I hope people take away from my journey, it’s the philosophy that’s guided my life and my company: “If you dream it, you can achieve it… It Can Be Done.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change the journey because every obstacle taught me something valuable. Early in my career, I experienced incredible success with music, but I also learned firsthand how complicated the business side of the industry can be. Like many artists and producers, I discovered that talent alone isn’t enough—you have to understand contracts, publishing, ownership, and how to protect your creative work. Those lessons came through experience, and sometimes the hard way.
Another challenge has been balancing responsibility with passion. I’ve continued working a full-time career while building my music business because I believe in taking care of my family and creating a stable foundation. There were times when people wondered why I hadn’t given up or why I kept chasing new goals after already being part of a global hit. My answer has always been simple: my purpose didn’t end with one success.
Life has also brought personal hardships, including the heartbreaking loss of one of my sons. That experience changed me forever and reminded me that tomorrow isn’t promised. It gave me an even greater appreciation for family, faith, and making every day count. It’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about leaving a legacy that my children and grandchildren can be proud of.
Today, I look at obstacles differently. I don’t see them as roadblocks—I see them as preparation. Every setback strengthened my character, sharpened my business mindset, and reminded me why I started creating music in the first place. If my journey has taught me anything, it’s that success isn’t measured by how many times you fall; it’s measured by how many times you’re willing to get back up and keep moving forward. That’s the mindset behind everything I do and the reason I truly believe: “If you dream it, you can achieve it… It Can Be Done.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a music producer, songwriter, DJ, entrepreneur, and the founder of ICBD Music LLC (“It Can Be Done”) and AfterShock Records. Most people know me as DJ Earthquake and for producing and co-writing “Ice Ice Baby,” one of the most recognizable songs in music history. I’m also proud to have contributed to several other songs on Vanilla Ice’s multi-platinum album To The Extreme. While those accomplishments helped establish my career, they represent only one chapter of my journey.
Today, my focus is on creating opportunities—not just for myself, but for other artists. I produce music, develop talent, negotiate synchronization licenses, mentor creatives, and build entertainment brands with long-term value. Through AfterShock Records, I’m committed to helping artists grow while maintaining ownership of their work and understanding the business behind their creativity.
One project I’m especially excited about is The Slow Jam Experience. What started as a community built around timeless R&B and meaningful conversations is evolving into a live entertainment brand that celebrates music, connection, and unforgettable experiences. Seeing people come together because of something we’ve created is incredibly rewarding.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a platinum record or a chart position—it’s the fact that I never stopped creating. Decades after my biggest commercial success, I’m still producing music, launching new ventures, developing artists, and pursuing new dreams with the same passion I had when I first started. I hope that encourages others to believe their best work doesn’t have to be behind them.
What sets me apart is my perspective. I’ve experienced both the excitement of major success and the challenges that can come with it. Those experiences taught me to value integrity, ownership, perseverance, and relationships just as much as talent. Everything I build today is guided by one simple philosophy: create something meaningful, leave people better than you found them, and prove that it’s never too late to chase a dream. That’s why the motto behind my company is, “If you dream it, you can achieve it… It Can Be Done.”
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d like readers to take away from my story, it’s that your journey doesn’t have an expiration date. Too often, people believe they missed their opportunity because life took an unexpected turn or because they aren’t where they thought they’d be by a certain age. My life has taught me the opposite. Every experience—good or bad—can prepare you for what’s next if you’re willing to keep learning, growing, and believing in yourself.
I’m excited about what’s ahead. Between AfterShock Records, ICBD Music LLC, developing new artists, expanding The Slow Jam Experience, and continuing to create music, I honestly feel like I’m just getting started. My goal isn’t simply to make hit records—it’s to build opportunities, create lasting memories, and leave a legacy that inspires others long after I’m gone.
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout the years—my family, friends, fans, fellow musicians, business partners, and the Dallas community that helped shape who I am. Every chapter of my life has reinforced one belief that has become the foundation of everything I do: if you stay faithful to your purpose, keep putting in the work, and refuse to quit, amazing things can still happen.
So if someone reading this is holding onto a dream, my advice is simple: don’t let fear, setbacks, or time convince you to stop. Keep moving forward, keep believing, and remember the words that guide both my life and my company:
“If you dream it, you can achieve it… It Can Be Done.”
