Inspiring Conversations with John Smith of Prevost Law Firm

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Smith.

Hi John, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset. Early in my career I worked as a developer while building a portfolio of investment properties before the market crash. A few years ago, my kids and I created Lilly Chillers (a pool cooling product that sells out every summer) but I knew I needed something with more consistent, year-round growth if I wanted to stay an entrepreneur full time.

Then, I met Neal Prevost from Prevost Law Firm through my wife’s pilates studio. He was semi-retired but stumbled into the deceptive practices of the solar installation industry, and wanted me to see if we could find and help those potential clients. I now serve Prevost Law Firm as Operations Manager. In less than two years, we’ve scaled the firm to multiple $1M+ revenue months while building one of the largest solar consumer protection practices in the country.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. The market crash was a tough lesson after building an investment property portfolio. Lilly Chillers has been a great business, but it’s highly seasonal and requires a significant inventory investment each year. I also spent time running Facebook ads for clients, which was rewarding but difficult to scale consistently and depended heavily on finding the right client fit. Each challenge helped shape the way I approach business today.

We’ve been impressed with Prevost Law Firm, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Prevost Law Firm, where I serve as Operations Manager, has been representing consumers for over 30 years, but in the last two years we’ve become one of the nation’s leading firms focused on solar consumer protection. We’re helping thousands of homeowners who were misled by solar companies, lenders, and installers, and we continue to expand our services to meet the needs of consumers facing complex financial and legal challenges. We also do Chapter 7 bankruptcy, helping individuals get a fresh financial start while continuing our mission of protecting consumers.

What sets us apart is our willingness to take on difficult, emerging cases (at scale) that many firms won’t touch. We’re constantly adapting as the industry changes, and we’re committed to finding innovative legal strategies that help our clients get the justice they deserve. That’s what I’m most proud of. Building a team and operation that’s making a real difference for families across the country.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Success isn’t just about finding the “perfect” idea, but instead: about building systems that let good ideas scale.

For me, that means documenting processes, hiring great people, and leveraging AI anywhere it can eliminate repetitive work so our team can focus on higher-value work and decisions. Technology has changed the game, but only if you’re willing to adapt faster than everyone else.

The other piece is persistence. Most people quit before they have enough data to know whether something actually works. We don’t. We test, measure, improve, and keep going until we find the version that does. Consistency beats intensity almost every time.
