Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Marshall.
Hi Cortney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started in 2021 in Fort Worth’s River District, when my best friend, Kyli, and I decided to turn our dream into reality. After years of setting up at local markets, learning the ins and outs of running a small business, and figuring out what it takes to succeed, we knew it was time to take the next step.
We moved to Magnolia Avenue in July of 2024 hoping for more foot traffic and to become part of a neighborhood that truly supports small businesses—and it turned out to be the best decision we could have made.
We’ve now been in our Magnolia location for two years, and the growth and support from the Fort Worth community has been incredible. Last August, my best friend and business partner moved back to New Mexico, and since then I’ve been running the shop solo. Thankfully, I’m surrounded by an amazing team of hardworking women who make it all possible. Many of them are artists, makers, or entrepreneurs with businesses of their own, and they bring so much creativity and heart to the shop every day.
Roadrunner Stop has always been about more than just selling gifts—it’s about supporting local artists, celebrating small businesses, and creating a place where our community feels welcome. I truly couldn’t do it without my team or the incredible support of Fort Worth, and I’m so grateful for how far we’ve come
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It certainly hasn’t always been a smooth road. The hustle started long before opening our storefront, with years spent setting up at markets every weekend—through the blazing Texas heat, freezing mornings, pouring rain, and everything in between. Those experiences taught me resilience and the value of showing up, no matter what.
The biggest challenge came when my best friend and business partner moved back to New Mexico. It was bittersweet, and learning to run the shop on my own pushed me in ways I never expected. But sometimes life’s biggest changes lead to the greatest growth.
I’m happy to say she’s doing wonderfully, and the shop is thriving. Looking back, I truly believe that what’s meant to be always finds its way. Every challenge has shaped this journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for where it has led.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Roadrunner Stop?
Roadrunner Stop is a funky little gift shop filled with unique, funny, and charming finds that are guaranteed to make people smile. We believe shopping should be fun, and our goal is simple: everyone who walks through our doors leaves a little happier than when they came in.
What makes the shop especially meaningful to me is that the majority of our products come from other small businesses, local makers, and talented Fort Worth artists. Supporting local has always been at the heart of what we do. Every purchase at Roadrunner Stop doesn’t just support my dream—it helps support the dreams of dozens of artists, makers, and fellow entrepreneurs.
To me, the Roadrunner brand has always been about community. It’s about keeping Fort Worth cool, celebrating creativity, and choosing local in a world that’s increasingly dominated by big-box stores and fast fashion. I’m incredibly proud that we’ve built a space where people can discover something one-of-a-kind while knowing their purchase is making a difference for so many small businesses.
What are your plans for the future?
My goal is to continue growing Roadrunner Stop while staying true to what makes it special. After building a strong foundation in our local community, I’m excited to expand our online presence so people outside of Fort Worth can experience the shop and support the incredible artists and makers we carry.
No matter how much we grow, my vision will always remain the same: to keep improving, keep creating, and keep supporting small businesses without ever compromising the values that got us here. I believe growth is most meaningful when you can stay true to your morals, your community, and the people who helped you along the way.
