Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Jobe.
Hi Kristina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing “kitchen hair” when I was a teenager! I was doing all of my friend’s hair. Cuts, coloring, highlights with cooking foil, etc. and I absolutely fell in love with the craft. I went to cosmetology school in 2012, and started at Ulta in 2013. After just a few months there, I went out on my own in January of 2014, and have been in my own suite since! 12 years of owning my own business and even more in love with hair today than ever.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road! Getting and retaining clients is difficult, especially when the economy isn’t doing well. Getting your hair done is a luxury, and oftentimes when people are cutting back on expenses it’s one of the first things to go. It has been difficult, but always so incredibly worth it to get to do what I love. I’ll never give up!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in blonding and hair extensions. I am so incredibly proud of my ability to transform dark hair into light blonde hair in one session, while keeping it healthy. I am also very proud of my extension skills. Installation, blending, styling, and making it look like the hair was grown themselves is something I take so much pride in. I have cancer survivors, trans girls, hair and scalp conditions, etc.. who I am able to give the gift of long beautiful hair. Years of experience and dedication has gotten me to this point! It brings me so much joy.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is making others feel beautiful. Turning that chair around and seeing their eyes light up is so fulfilling. Outside of work, my wife of 14 years and my 5 month old baby girl are the joys of my life.
