Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Resendez.
Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I received my undergrad in journalism, which turned me on to design, photo and video. The three major loves of my life have been music, writing and then all things visual. However! My villain origin story definitely has long stretches of me drawing, consuming unhealthy amounts of Nickelodeon, and portraying biblical characters in theatrical productions. Wait, what was the question again? Curiosity, ignorant optimism and delusion got me to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Guao! Oftentimes, there hasn’t even been a road at all. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to doing anything that remotely resembles making a living — which is funny because I’ve landed some amazing and lucrative gigs. I don’t think there has ever been a period in time that is more conducive to getting absolutely NOTHING done while one feels like they can accomplish ANYTHING. We live in an era that’s nothing but landmines for those with monstrous potential and short attention spans. That’s me. I’ll break your heart with wasted potential.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So, real estate photo and video pays the pills. Creating art is what keeps my ass out of a cubicle chair and a gun barrel out of my mouth. Whether I’m in a jailhouse bathroom making sculptures with wet toilet paper or wielding tens of thousands of dollars of camera equipment, I’m making — or thinking about making — stuff. At this point, it’s autonomic. I can’t help it.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Creating more than consuming.
