Check Out Kimberly Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Johnson.

Hi Kimberly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We met over 30 years ago, introduced by a friend in a parking lot of all places. From that moment on, we were inseparable. Together, we’ve built a family, a home, and a life we’re truly proud of. Our three children—Trevor, Audrey, and Tony—have definitely kept things interesting along the way.

When my husband was diagnosed with autonomic dysfunction, everything changed. Traditional employment was no longer an option and leaving him home alone simply wasn’t safe. Faced with a new reality, we became determined to create a different path for our family. We spent months researching everything from bread making to laser engraving, searching for something that could work for our situation.

That’s when we discovered xTool lasers—and we fell in love. Their versatility opened a door we didn’t know existed. Today, I have seven xTool machines, each one helping me turn stress and uncertainty into creativity and purpose. xTool gave me back a part of my life I thought I had lost.

For the past four years, they’ve been a constant companion on our journey, and truly, a blessing. Now, we pour that passion into crafting one-of-a-kind cutting boards and beautiful home décor, creating pieces that carry both our story and our heart.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While we love what we do, the reality of running a handmade business alongside health challenges can be overwhelming. The endless hours of meticulous crafting, combined with a demanding market schedule, often leads to deep fatigue. Additionally, navigating the financial hurdles—like securing market fees and investing in new inventory during lean times—presents a real challenge. We pour our hearts into our work, but the behind-the-scenes reality requires a lot of resilience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re known for obsessing over every detail in our artwork. Every piece starts as chicken‑scratch ideas and grows into full‑bloom designs that stop people in their tracks. Our cutting boards are what truly set us apart—so striking that customers often say they don’t know whether to use them or hang them on the wall. Comments like that make me smile every single time.

Our pricing is another thing that makes us different. We work hard to offer something for every budget. Whether you want something as tiny as an engraving on a grain of rice or a custom 96‑inch sign, we can make it happen.

I’m incredibly proud of the connections and friendships we’ve built along the way. With seven different lasers and four types of printers, we can take on almost any project that comes our way. We are a truly unique laser company—creative, capable, and committed to bringing your ideas to life.

How do you think about luck?
Luck has shown up in my life and business in different ways. I’ve been fortunate to build meaningful connections in the community, and those relationships have turned into real, positive gains. And sure, I’ve had moments of ‘bad luck’—like booking an event and not making a single dollar. But even then, the luck shifts, because I still walk away with new connections and opportunities. To me, luck is what you make of it. Even a simple compliment is a win.
