Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzette Velazquez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey hasn’t been a straight line, and I think that’s what has made it meaningful.
I was born in Mexico and later moved to the United States, where I learned to adapt to new environments and embrace change from an early age. At 20 years old, my life changed dramatically when I became the legal guardian of my father. Caring for him while balancing work and school was one of the greatest challenges I’ve ever faced, but it taught me resilience, responsibility, and compassion in ways I couldn’t have imagined. After he passed away, I made a promise to myself that I would continue building a life that honored both his sacrifices and my own dreams.
Professionally, I’ve spent more than a decade working in the legal field, where I’ve had the opportunity to support complex litigation while earning my bachelor’s degree in Political Science and later my MBA in Strategic Management. That experience gave me the confidence to pursue goals that once felt out of reach.
In recent years, I’ve embraced opportunities that pushed me far outside my comfort zone. I began modeling and entered the world of pageantry, which opened the door to a new chapter of self-discovery, discipline, and personal growth. Those experiences taught me that confidence isn’t something you’re simply born with, it’s something you build every time you choose courage over fear.
Today, I’m bringing together everything I’ve learned through the launch of Jellyfish Cosmetics, a beauty brand inspired by resilience, confidence, and transformation. For me, the jellyfish symbolizes quiet strength and adaptability. It moves with the current when necessary, yet continues forward with grace. That idea became the inspiration behind my brand and the message I hope to share with others, that our greatest challenges don’t define us; they shape us into who we’re meant to become.
Looking back, every chapter of my life has prepared me for the next. What once felt like setbacks became the foundation for new opportunities, and I’ve learned that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself or pursue a dream that’s been waiting for the right time.
If there’s one thing my journey has taught me, it’s that our story doesn’t end after hardship, it begins again. Every chapter has shaped who I am today, and I’m excited for the ones that haven’t been written yet.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change my journey because every challenge has shaped the person I am today.
One of the most defining moments of my life came when I became the legal guardian of my father at just 20 years old. Balancing that responsibility while working and pursuing my education required me to grow up quickly. There were many moments of uncertainty, grief, and self-doubt, but those experiences taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of showing up even when life feels overwhelming.
Like many people, I’ve also faced moments where I questioned whether I was starting too late. Entering the world of modeling, pageantry, and entrepreneurship later in life meant stepping into unfamiliar environments where it was easy to compare myself to others. I had to learn to let go of the idea that there is a “perfect timeline” for success and instead focus on becoming the best version of myself.
Building Jellyfish Cosmetics has been another lesson in perseverance. People often see the finished product, but they don’t always see the months of research, product development, branding, legal work, packaging decisions, and countless revisions that happen behind the scenes. Entrepreneurship has taught me that progress is rarely glamorous, it’s built through consistency, patience, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when things don’t go as planned.
Today, I see challenges differently than I once did. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” I ask, “What is this teaching me?” That shift in perspective has changed everything. I’ve learned that growth often happens in the moments we never would have chosen for ourselves, and those moments have ultimately become the foundation for the life I’m building today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jellyfish Cosmetics was born from the belief that beauty is about more than appearance, it’s about confidence, resilience, and embracing your own journey.
As someone who has experienced both personal hardship and reinvention, I wanted to create a brand that reminds people they don’t have to fit into someone else’s definition of beauty or success. The jellyfish became the perfect symbol for that vision. It represents adaptability, quiet strength, and the ability to move forward even when life changes direction. Those values are woven into everything I’m building.
Our first collection features lip glosses designed to help people feel confident, whether they’re heading to work, celebrating a special occasion, or simply wanting to feel a little more like themselves. While creating beautiful products is important, my greater purpose is to build a brand that people genuinely connect with. I want every product to feel intentional, from the formulas and packaging to the experience of opening each order.
One thing I’m especially proud of is building Jellyfish Cosmetics from the ground up. Every decision from product development and branding to packaging and website design has been guided by a clear vision rather than chasing trends. It’s been a labor of love and a lesson in patience, persistence, and believing in an idea long before anyone else could see it.
As Jellyfish Cosmetics continues to grow, my hope is that it becomes known for more than beautiful products. I want it to be a brand that reminds people that resilience can be beautiful, that reinvention is always possible, and that our greatest strength often comes from embracing change rather than fearing it. If someone opens one of our products and feels even a little more confident, empowered, or inspired to embrace their own journey, then I’ve accomplished what I set out to create.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that life doesn’t follow a timeline, and that’s okay.
For a long time, I believed success had to happen by a certain age or in a certain order. But my journey taught me that some of the most meaningful opportunities come after the moments that challenge us the most. Becoming my father’s legal guardian at a young age, building a career in law, pursuing modeling and pageantry later in life, and launching my own business all happened in different seasons of my life. Looking back, I realize there was never a “right” timeline, only the one that was right for me.
I’ve also learned that resilience isn’t about never struggling; it’s about continuing to move forward, even when the path isn’t clear. Some of the greatest growth in my life has come from stepping into situations where I felt uncertain or unqualified and choosing courage anyway.
If I could leave people with one message, it would be this: don’t let fear, comparison, or the expectations of others convince you that you’ve missed your chance. Your story is uniquely yours, and every experience, both the joyful ones and the difficult ones are preparing you for what’s next.
Today, I don’t measure success by titles or milestones. I measure it by whether I’m living with purpose, continuing to grow, and using my experiences to encourage others to believe in themselves. I’ve learned that reinvention isn’t something we do once, it’s something we’re always capable of, no matter where we are in life.
