Check Out Taylor Duckworth’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Duckworth.

Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Getting started in tattooing was honestly the hardest part of my journey. I searched everywhere for an apprenticeship and ran into a lot of rough situations before finally getting my start at a tattoo school in Florida. After that, I worked at a small local shop before moving back home to Fort Worth, Texas. That’s when I got the opportunity to join TNT Tattoo Co., where I spent the last three years. I seriously loved my time there and learned so much from everyone around me. I am currently moving to Kriptic Kreations in Justin, Texas and I’m excited for my new journey.

The first couple years of my career were all about learning the fundamentals and building a solid foundation. Over the last two years, I’ve really fallen in love with black and grey realism and have been putting most of my focus into growing in that style. I’m always trying to improve and push myself with every tattoo I do, and I don’t think that part will ever stop.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I spent years trying to find an apprenticeship before I finally got my chance. When I got into my first shop, there were a lot of days I’d go home in tears because my team didn’t sugarcoat anything. Their critiques were brutally honest, and while they were hard to hear sometimes, I respected the hell out of them for it because they made me a better artist. No matter how rough a day was, I always came back the next morning ready to learn, do better, and keep improving.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mainly specialize in black and grey realism, but I’ve also been getting into color realism lately. I still have a lot to learn, and I honestly think that’s one of the best parts about tattooing. There’s always room to grow. I love doing the weird stuff. The stranger the idea, the more excited I get. If someone comes to me with something that’s different or outside the box, I’m all in.

Any big plans?
I’m really excited to be starting this next chapter at Kriptic Kreations in Justin, Texas. I’ll have the chance to work alongside some incredibly talented artists, keep learning, and continue growing as a tattoo artist. My biggest goal has always been to keep improving, and someday I’d love to open a shop of my own. Right now, I’m just excited to soak up as much knowledge and experience as I can along the way.
