Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Winston.
Noah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was somewhat of an artist since I was young. I wasn’t very good, but I found myself always drawing. It didn’t take much time to realize how good of an illustrator I was. I just really enjoyed drawing portraits of my friends and family. I was a huge fan of manga and anime at the time, so most of my inspiration came from there. Photography was one of those things that have always been around me. I was always so fascinated by still life images. It wasn’t until my eleventh and twelfth-grade year in high school that I took photography more serious. I battled between being a traditional/digital illustrator and a photographer.
Eventually, I chose photography. I started off as a photojournalist. I didn’t take the journalism class, but the teacher allowed me to participate since I was so interested in photography. Funny thing is, I got a scholarship to an art school majoring in graphic & web design. I switched programs before actually stepping foot on campus and 4 years later I’m one of the best portrait photographers in my program. It amazes me how I’ve come so far. I procrastinate so much but always made sure I can hold my own… plus others.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t know anyone who has ever had a smooth road ahead of them. I know for certain that I had to overcome so many challenges just stay afloat. I can’t stop imagining being where I am If I had never gone through those trials. As I got older I realized I had to start leaving things behind even people. It was hard but it was for the best.
Noah Winston Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business (Noah Winston Photography) officially launched somewhere towards the end of 2014. I had originally started a business in high school called, Immortal Wizard Production. It was a graphic and web design company based in Little Rock, AR. My photography business includes just me. I had planned to put together a team which included another photographer, editor, etc. but before I do that I want to make a name for myself. I want to be somewhat recognizable locally. I figure once I do that I can start looking for others to work with, then we as a team can fight our way up nationally.
I specialize in portrait and architectural photography. I’ve always enjoyed portraits of people and then I sort of found my way doing architectural photography. I wasn’t interested in urban real-estate architecture. I was more into minimalist and abstract photography. It always made me feel like I was putting together a puzzle just halfway and others had to figure out what it was. Sometimes depending on the project, I feel like if the viewer understands the artwork right away, then I’ve failed.
Besides that, I’m really happy that I actually have a business. This career of mine is still fairly new and I hope in the next couple of years it takes me where I want to be.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment would have to be the exciting adventures I’ve gone on with such talented photographers in Dallas. I think those times I’ve spent hanging with my friends were the best. they helped me progress and make it this far and I feel without those moments we’ve shared I wouldn’t be half the person I am today.
