Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Purdue.
Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a wife and mother of three with a bachelor’s degree in Visual Studies. I discovered a deep love for art as a small child and always knew creating would be an integral part of my future. After teaching art in public school for several years, my husband and I made the decision that I would stay “home” with our little ones. I personally wanted to walk alongside them more closely, in this season of their lives. My focus became serving my family and working to make our home a place where we could all find joy in the craziness of everyday life. Through this time, I found a deep, fulfilling purpose in serving others.
As the years continued, friends and loved ones would comment that I had a gift of hospitality and interior decorating. This encouragement stirred up my desire to once again be able to create. With that, I started my blog and Instagram business, Joyfully Rooted. In so many ways, our lives today threaten our joy and keep us from growing our roots deeply (as individuals, and in relationships.) The evidence is found in the staggering number of people suffering from anxiety, depression, and broken families. Joyfully Rooted inspires an abundant, fulfilled life with strong, lasting connections. Through my website and social media platforms, I have created a place that serves to inspire other women as they nurture their own homes and hearts.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been many struggles along the way, but just like anyone who follows the path that they were created to walk, I have found great fulfillment in the discipline of being stretched. I think finding a God-given strength that reaches beyond my fears and limits has helped me grow and find a deeper joy that we were all meant to know.
If I could give any advice, it would be to find what brings you fulfillment while you are serving other people and using your unique gifts. Once you have found your niche, do some research before jumping in head first. Then, find someone else who has walked a similar journey and ask them the hard questions. No matter what you find yourself doing, do what you love, and do it well.
We’d love to hear more about Joyfully Rooted.
Over the last several years using Joyfully Rooted, I have been able to intertwine my faith while sharing interior decorating ideas on a budget, DIY projects, as well as recipe collaborations with my mom on my blog and Instagram. Through all of these creative outlets, I have gained many beautiful friendships and been given amazing opportunities. I have worked with some incredible businesses, traveled, been invited to speak to groups of women, decorated interior spaces locally, and discovered a love for writing.
Joyfully Rooted is set apart because I really try to only collaborate and participate in sponsorships that I truly believe are a good fit for nurturing the home and heart of women. The ultimate goal in everything I share is to leave women feeling more encouraged.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I have certainly discovered a variety of wonderful opportunities, and with that barriers are common. But from my perspective the majority of barriers I have encountered are self-imposed. Feelings like; fear, insecurity, comparison, etc. can be paralyzing at times. In my experience, however, barriers are simply the means by which healthy change and growth can take place. In the world of interior decor, blogging, and social media, where what you do is accepted or rejected by many, it can really hold a person accountable. Making sure I stay grounded and continue to grow in the right direction has required constant truth-seeking, reflection, and prayer. All of which are vital to pushing through those walls that may try to hold me back.
While using my individual gifts and serving others through Joyfully Rooted, I have discovered a stronger, more courageous person within myself. I made the choice to operate Joyfully Rooted based on a unique mission where the goal is not to make as much money as possible, but to encourage as many as possible, all while continuing to love and serve my family to the best of my ability. This has only come to fruition by the grace of God and through the support of some pretty special loved ones.
So, whatever venture you decide to pursue, don’t look at the barriers in your journey as an offense, a stopping place or a reason to quit. Look those barriers square in the face and let them teach you how to work harder
and become a better person.
