Art & Life with Katie Rosebraugh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Rosebraugh.

Katie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far. Photography has been a hobby of mine since college where I majored in Business Administration. However, all of my elective courses were in art. So, I have a unique education in business and art.

I worked in accounting and financial planning most of my career. Then in 2011 I went to a parent’s weekend at my daughter’s college, CalArts, and it changed my life. Seeing the work of all those amazingly talented students was so inspiring. It reminded me of my own college art classes and got me back in touch with my creative side. As soon as I returned home after that weekend, I enrolled in online graphic design classes at sessions.edu. My goal was just to do something creative on the side but it turned into more. A year later I quit the corporate world to pursue my creative career. That was 6 years ago. I started with web design and moved into photography 2 years ago. Having a business background has really helped me with starting my own business.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a portrait photographer. I strive to take authentic portraits that are also flattering. My favorite subjects are high school senior girls because they love the camera and the camera loves them. I like to make beautiful photos because I believe that the world needs more beauty. The world is ugly enough already. Raw, gritty ugly reality in photos does not appeal to me. I feel like there is enough of that in everyone’s life so I try to bring out the beauty in everyone and everything.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful? Success to me is happy clients. I want them to have a good time at their portrait session and love their photos. It’s a good feeling to see so many of my clients using one of my photos for their social media profile pictures. It’s also nice to see them sharing my photos and using them on their websites. I think when you make the clients happiness a priority then everything else falls into place.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My website is the best place to see my work: katherinegail.co. You can also find a lot of my work on my Instagram page: instagram.com/katherinegailco. The best way to support my work would be to follow me on Instagram or hire me as their photographer.
