Meet Artiz & Monique Stroud of Sweet Rolls Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Artiz & Monique Stroud.

Artiz & Monique, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We began as Big and Little Bites Catering in April 2015 and started selling Sweet Rolls at our local Denton Community Market to give people a taste of our baked treats in hopes of booking catering clients. Little did we know Sweet Rolls would take off on its own! Along with selling them at the market, we also feature them at special events, offer gift delivery, and workplace/home delivery. Sweet Rolls Denton is a cottage food bakery; so, we do not currently have a store front. However, we are working diligently to create a great, consistent product in hopes of expanding in the future.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been an interesting journey! So, as I previously said, we started off catering and had no idea this would be the direction we’d go, we finished out our previously booked catering clients and transitioned primarily to baking Sweet Rolls. Because of the cottage food laws, we can bake from our home which worked much better for our family. With catering, we were spending most of our weekends away from our 3 boys (now 6, 4 and 2) at a commercial kitchen prepping and cooking for events. Now, we are able to do what we enjoy at home and still take them to parties, do family activities and simply not miss out on seeing them grow up! We even take them on deliveries with us in their “Sweet Rolls Denton” shirts so we can spend time with them and teach them at a young age that they can work for themselves, make the rules for how they’d like their business to operate and pursue their passions.

Sweet Rolls Denton is family-owned by Artiz, Monique and the three little Stroud boys. We are known for creating cinnamon rolls with a twist. The twist is we offer different flavors such as Caramel Pecan, Chocolate Espresso, Vegan Pecan Sticky Buns, seasonal fruit varieties such as Strawberry Lemon, Peach Crumble and more. We believe what sets us apart is that our rolls are hand-crafted using quality ingredients such as unbleached flour and real butter. We are passionate about what we do and work hard to create a quality product that our supporters love. We are on a mission to create the best sweet rolls you’ve ever had!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We both moved to Denton about 11 years ago to attend school– TWU and UNT. We met, got married, had kids and the rest is history! We had no idea we’d call this place our home. But we love it! What we love best about Denton is the great community of people! Everyone is so proud of their city and supportive of small businesses. No place is perfect. But there seems to be something for everyone no matter what stage of life. There are many ways to get involved and be active in positively impacting the community.
