Today we’d like to introduce you to Elnora Gillespie.
Elnora, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating college in 1991, I attended and graduated 1992 Barbizon Modeling School to learn the other side of beauty. How to dress… How to correctly wear makeup. How to walk and carry myself as a professional lady for myself and around others. I attended Metroplex Beauty School and graduated and purchased my own salon in 1995 which was called Salon of Virtue. Owned and operated it for six years. After fulfilling that dream, I sold the salon in 2001 to become an independent contractor in my own suite until 2016. I was approached by the General Manager of JCPenney Frisco Store to come join the The Salon by Instyle Team. Located in the Stone Briar Mall inside JCPenney, Instyle’s partner. I accepted his offer and brought my specialty of using the most used method of worldwide in the professional industry, Great Lengths Hair Extensions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No it has not been a smooth road. I always worked a part time job to pay cash for things needed for the salon to stay out of debt. And that part time job was JCPenney. I came on board 2001 as a part time cashier.
When I opened my salon back in 1995, the city required that all salons that had nail technicians to put in a ventilation system. I had 8 Nail techs and 6 stylists. The cost of the system was $10,000. That was not in my budget back than after paying $25,000 cash for my salon. So, I went down to the city and spoke with the chief and I asked him If I can get the company Honeywell to show that their air purifiers can do the same job, can I use them. He said “yes only if they can prove to him that it will do the job.” So, I got with Honeywell and we made it happen. I only was out of $600.00 plus tax for two air purifiers. That was not easy but I it got done. Which I was happy about in the end because I was able not only save me money but other salons in the area.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Elnora Hair Extensions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I work in a full-service salon and I specialize in Hair Extensions. That is my passion even though I offer and enjoy doing other services. I love helping women look and feel beautiful about their hair.
I am proud of what I do along with giving excellent customer service. Staying up to date on the new extensions and styles and being consistent about my work and not only offering services in a timely matter but also quality, its what’s important to the clients.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Yes, my future plans in to continue to do hair at the Salon by Instlye while also continuing to be an entrepreneur / inventor. I have an invention Called The Portable Shampoo Bowl & Chair that I was rewarded a Patent on that I am working on now. It’s an idea I came up with while working on a client.
