Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Anderson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kayla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born and raised in Texas, I decided right after graduating high school that I would attend an esthetics program. My original goal was to become a makeup artist, but I quickly fell in love with skin care and performing facial treatments. I just knew I was ecstatic to be in an industry where the goal was to make people feel better, and to ensure they leave happier than they arrived! I also found a passion for educating others on proper skin care; so, I soon became an esthetics instructor. Finally, after seven years in the industry, I built up the courage to start my very own business. KMA Skin Clarity is a product of hard work, and a true dedication to each and every one of my clients. I wanted to create a place people could escape to, and where they could trust that I have their best interest at heart. This is a space where you will find natural and results-oriented skin care products and treatments, hair removal services, lash and brow tinting, and most of all… relaxation. It is a true gift to wake up every day knowing that you get to make a few more people happy, and I am forever grateful for it!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting to this point in my life and in my career has had its ups and downs. Starting out with no experience in a competitive field is frightening for almost anyone, but doing this at 18 was overwhelming at times. The sad thing is, people, DO treat you differently depending on your age and level of experience. Experience definitely allows you to gain more knowledge and understanding, but it doesn’t have to define you or what you are capable of. You have to remember that people can only have power over you if you let them. And in the end, your happiness is what is truly important. If there is one thing I have learned and held onto through this journey, it’s to never stop learning. This applies to any industry, not just esthetics. Every industry is constantly changing, and the best way to be a success is to stay current and continue learning no matter your experience level.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into KMA Skin Clarity story. Tell us more about the business.
KMA Skin Clarity offers various services, including facials, waxing, and lash and brow tinting. Using KMA Skin Clarity brand facial products, each facial treatment is tailored to your specific skin care needs. There are also multiple, results-oriented facial enhancements to choose from, like chemical peels, collagen masks, and microdermabrasion. I am well known for my face, neck and shoulder massage that is included in every facial treatment! After years of research and hands on experience in the industry, I am proud to present a space where skin care and relaxation meet.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I can remember in the fifth grade, presenting a project on Amelia Earhart. From the moment, I learned of her story, I was in complete awe of her strength and determination. At times in my life, when people told me I “couldn’t” or “shouldn’t” do something… I thought back to that fifth-grade project, and all of Ms. Earhart’s accomplishments and I knew I could do anything I set my mind to.
Also, Jane Wurwand, owner and founder of Dermalogica. A woman who has truly made waves in the esthetics industry. I met her once in my life and completely forgot how to talk! I have looked up to her ever since I started esthetics school, her products and training videos are what gave me my base knowledge and strength as an esthetician.
And last, but certainly not least, my mother. The woman who taught me that no matter what life throws your way, there is always a reason to get up and keep striving for better! She has always supported me and cheered me on, and for that, I am forever grateful.
