Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Joree.
Jay, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always been interested in art, both of my grandmothers are amazing artists. I knew in middle school I wanted to be a tattoo artist it was just a matter of getting an apprenticeship. Definitely went through a few years of struggles looking for one.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love tattooing for multiple reasons. One of the main reasons would have to be that it lasts a lifetime. Someone entrusts you with placing your own artwork on them for the rest their life. It’s a huge honor and also giant responsibility. I guess my inspiration would come from geometric patterns. I love the depth it gives a piece that otherwise wouldn’t necessarily have it. As for my faceless piece inspiration I would say its very heavily pop culture influenced. I think that my work makes people feel good about themselves. Seeing that looking on someone’s face when they see a new piece in the mirror the first time always makes you realize how much it means to them.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Being an artist can definitely be lonely if you isolate yourself. Which sometimes as artists we don’t see when we are doing that because we are so focused on whatever project we have in front of us. I knew that working side by side with everything at Third Eye Gallery (Instagram @thirdeyegallery) I would definitely be lonely.
