Check out Rickey “Slikk Muzik” Offord’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickey “Slikk Muzik” Offord.

Rickey “Slikk Muzik”, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Born and raised in Dallas, Tx 1985. Also grew up in a small town right outside of Dallas called Crandall, Tx. Some of my childhood years…. I was raised in church which is where I learned to play drums at 4 years old and piano at 11 years by ear. No lessons. Started producing beats on my Karaoke machine, Casio keyboard and cassette tapes during my teenage years. I was also very good in football throughout my entire childhood and up through college and semi pro football. I dropped out of college to pursue my music career and had several opportunities that didn’t pan out in 2007. 2008 I produced the Dallas hit song “Hit the Bobby B” and several others. Montell Jordan was the first major celebrity to discover me. It was on myspace also in 2008.

I left my job from Bank of America corporate office in 2013 to pursue my music full time in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. After plenty of hard work dedication and staying out of my car for a while in between places, I finally got a record deal. I worked with Kenny “Baby Face” Edmonds who gave me the opportunity to work with Ariana Grande. From there I produced the record “Lovin it” on her Yours Truly album that went #1 on billboard 200 Charts and platinum across the world. That further allowed me to work with serval major artists such as Tori Kelly, Chris Brown, Jamie Foxx, Lil Wayne, Rodney Darkchild Jerkins, Vincent Herbert, Tank, Ty Dolla sign, Jeremih, AfroJack, Wiz Khalifa, Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell, Tamela and David Mann, En Vogue, Fred Hammond and many more. By 2016 I had had success but overworked my body too much.

Due to stress and anxiety I developed gallstones early 2016. On May 12, 2106 I had to rush to the ER due to critical gallstone complications in my intestines. I went in for emergency Day surgery and was supposed to had been in and out, but there were complications during the surgery and both my lungs and liver ended up being punctured and Injured during the surgery. Due to this, I immediately begin to go into very critical shape and by that next morning ended up in an induced coma for 33 days straight. While in the coma I medically died 3 different times by cardiac arrest. I had 1% chance of surviving and I wasn’t expected to make it out alive. My entire body was also paralyzed. My lungs had collapse and hardened completely. All of my organs in my body had shut down. I had to have several different surgeries while in the coma. I was supposed to had been brain dead and pretty much a vegetable according to doctors. But I miraculously came out completely healed.

My lungs had miraculously regenerated although they weren’t supposed to and my liver healed itself miraculous and all my body organs begin to function properly again on it’s on after doctors had done all they could do. And by day 33 I woke up from the coma and never looked back! I had to learn how to walk again, talk again, eat again, dress myself again, and do everything with my body all over again. I had lost almost 80 lbs. and had to regain all of my strength again. I was taking over 20 different medications prescribed to me by the doctors. Today, 2018, I am totally miraculously healed and I take 0 medications now. I am back working more and better than ever before on my music and a lot of great new music coming out. And I’m even completing my documentary and book called “‘Miracles and Muzik” which talks about and shares my miraculous story in Detail of dying and coming back to life 3 times while in a 33-day coma. I am very blessed and forever grateful to be alive. God is very good to me.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a music producer, songwriter and musician. I play 3 different instruments: drums, piano, bass guitar. I create and produce and write music of all genres from r&b, rap/hip hop, pop, gospel, Latin, dance, etc. my inspiration is to get my music to touch people all over the world. My message is to let them know all things are possible if you keep God first, work hard, stay dedicated, consistent, never give up, and believe in yourself. I was an underdog and never had a hand out or anything given to me. I beat all the odds and was able to overcome all adversities from my childhood, up until my adult life. Even after facing conquering death itself, I am still here today to tell my story and share with the world to let them know anything is possible and can help for anyone if you just simply believe and keep the faith.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
To stay focused and consistent. Not to give up when you hear the word “NO” and not to be discouraged, but to be stay encouraged and motivated rather. Continue to work hard and set short and long-term goals for yourself. Pace yourself, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. All things will pan out in its proper timing. And to simply enjoy and cease every moment. Don’t take it for granted! Enjoy the process!
