Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Cornett.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I studied ballet in Memphis, TN and was rewarded a scholarship to study Ballet Pedagogy at The University of Oklahoma. Previous to arriving, I broke my foot and rehabbed with Pilates and PT. I developed a love of Pilates and continued it to cross train and rehab with my ballet regimen. I pursued dancing for a few years after college and completed my Pilates Certification through STOTT Pilates. I opened my studio at the age of 25 and we are now on our 6th year! I have an amazing team of instructors and we love being able to help our clients with an array of goals. We work with variety of clients ranging from pro athletes to stroke patients. We pride ourselves on keeping up to date with new research and approaches in the health industry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a steady road, slowly and cautiously growing. I started very small and have added equipment, instructors, and classes as we have grown.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Pilates Concept – what should we know?
We specialize in private and semi-private Pilates classes. We work with injuries and Special Populations (osteoporosis, breast cancer, knee rehab, spinal issues, scoliosis management, pre/post-natal, etc.). Our group classes are capped at 5 people so we can still individualize for our clients. But we also work with pro athletes for their cross training, so it’s not just rehabilitate- our clients can get an intense workout.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Definitely my parents- they supported me through years of dance. I became pretty independent at a younger age when I would leave for the summer to ballet summer camps and had to become self-sufficient. And they always pushed me in a healthy and supportive manner.
Also my ballet teacher in Memphis- she taught discipline and control in both ballet and life.
I’m also extremely lucky to work with the amazing instructors I have at the studio!!
