Today we’d like to introduce you to Dori Kelley.
Dori, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
As a child I learned that if I wanted something I needed to work for it. At 13, I started making balloon animals at local businesses on evenings and weekends to pay for my competitive gymnastic classes. I continued making balloon art part-time as a freelancer throughout my early 20’s, and soon after established Texas Party Business, a family party service that provides balloon art, face painting, and party services throughout Texas.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Balloon art and face painting are not only guaranteed to bring smiles to kids of all ages; they help spark their creativity and allow them to be whatever they can imagine. Providing entertainment for the whole family helps bring them together and make those special moments even more memorable. Our art brings a creative twist to the characters and animals kids know and love and allow them to experience them in a new way.
Through meeting so many children I’ve always made sure to project a positive message of encouragement, humor and ambition. When kids ask me the regular question of how I got into making balloon art they find out I began at a young age and worked for what I wanted. This inspires them to try things they have interests in. I have met so many creative children over the years that I recently launched a program called ‘Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow’ (EoT). We cultivate kidpreneurs to become business owners. It is powered by Texas Party Business.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Don’t compete; collaborate! We’ve had the pleasure of bringing in some of the best in family party services in Texas to include everything from magicians and DJs to bouncy houses, Trackless Trains and so much more! If you’re willing to find the right people to help you expand your business, you’ll be able to continue meeting the demands of the market and providing excellent services to your clients.
