Conversations with the Inspiring Tischell Ethridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tischell Ethridge.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been a motivator. I’m a firm believer in fulfilling your purpose. While many searches for years to find their purpose, I believe that my purpose in life is to help people become better versions of themselves.
My fitness journey began at the YMCA. I took it upon myself to teach a kid fitness class that had been on the schedule for some time. My class became popular and attracted kids from all over the Southern Oak Cliff area. During my time there, I got a chance to help save a few kids on the path of becoming obese. I was approached by so many mothers that didn’t know how to tell their kids to slow down on eating, let alone tell them that they’re overweight.

I developed a passion for fitness. I obtained a certification in training through the NASM program and redirected my energy as a trainer into adult boot camps. I’m blessed now, to be able to live with purpose and inspire the masses.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I can probably speak for most trainers when I say that the road that we travel has so many unexpected turns, rough roads, and sometimes dead ends.

Before committing to training full time, I was a former truck driver for FedEx. I had plans to on my own route, but that plan was redirected to me being fired on the spot for a new male driver.

I then found myself at Walmart, working on truckloads and maneuvering freight with forklifts. I began to invest and put money into my 401k. I began saving for a home and somewhere in the middle of me saving, I was fired.

I was pretty popular at work. Beatbodyz had turned into a popular group. I would always get pulled to the side, and I was asked, “Why aren’t you training people full-time?”. My response was always, I’m not where I need to be.

The truth is, I was scared of the what if’s. I was scared of moving back home with my parents. I was afraid of failure. After being fired, I really had no choice.

My advice to anyone who’s starting their journey is to never doubt yourself, and don’t wait until you’re at a dead end to try to find a way out. You see, I could’ve been a bigger brand, but I didn’t see guaranteed success. Therefore, I stalled on time, but everything happens for a reason. I hope that someone reading this learns to let go, step out in faith, and never look back.

what should we know about Beatbodyz? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I like to call myself a body transformer. That’s what makes Beatbodyz stand out. You see results from trainers everywhere, but my results emulate plastic surgery.

I’m proud to say that, my clients achieve their goals the natural way. I love the fact that I can be myself at all times. I always start my class with a few jokes, and then BOOM, it’s straight to business.

I’ve been blessed to be nominated as the Best in Fitness for the past 2 years. That honor is something that I’ll treasure for a lifetime.

I never consider myself better than anyone. I am hungry, and I’m going to keep breaking down every piece of body fat that I can.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Growing up, I learned that being the best wasn’t the mindset to have.

I played varsity basketball from my freshman to senior year of high school. After trying out my freshman year, I actually landed a spot on the junior varsity team. I wasn’t what you would quite call a star. I mean in practice I was amazing, during games, I sat at the very end of the bench near our athletic trainer. He would put tape on my jersey every game to make me a number. I realized quickly that my hopes and dreams of being the top female baller in the school were fading. I always wanted to be like my Middle School Classmate Michael Crabtree(who now plays in the NFL). He was a superstar immediately.

I began to become defeated mentally. My coach made an announcement after practice one day that we would be having 5 am open gym. Of course, most of my teammates declined because it wasn’t mandatory for JV.

At 5 am, I was there. I was determined to do my best, instead of being the best. After a few confusing repetitions of varsity drills, I began to stand out. Halfway into the season, the scrub was promoted to varsity!

When you’re not trying to be the best, you learn to remain humble. That is what keeps me blessed.
