Adanna Bernard on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Adanna Bernard. Check out our conversation below.

Adanna, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
They all carry their own weight, but together they create the highest outcome. Energy is precious, it is the fuel of creation, and what you give your energy to will always expand. Integrity is the anchor, the ability to remain true to yourself as you uncover deeper parts of who you are, learning to see truth in people, places, and things. Intelligence is the light, the clarity that grows as you evolve, showing you the wisdom of prioritizing what truly matters, yourself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am TheAfroZen. My brand is more than a name, it is a movement of psychological alchemy and soulful clarity. I was forged in fire, shadows, and lived experience, and I’ve learned to transform pain into wisdom, betrayal into boundaries, and wounds into windows of truth.

Through TheAfroZen, I merge psychology with spirituality, aligning intelligence, energy, and integrity to break illusions and ignite self-discovery. At my core, I am a liberator, exposing manipulation, dismantling toxicity, and awakening the power within. My voice is direct yet compassionate, fierce yet reflective, carrying both fire and calm.

This is for those who refuse to stay broken, for those ready to rise, reclaim, and redefine themselves on their own terms.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed lies about myself that were never mine to carry. I believed I was too much, too loud, too sensitive. I believed love had to be earned, and that my worth depended on how much I could give or endure. I believed silence kept me safe, and shrinking made me acceptable.

I no longer believe those lies. I know now that my voice has power, my presence has purpose, and my sensitivity is not weakness but strength. I know that love is not something I chase, it is something I embody. I know that my worth was never up for debate.

The lies fell apart, but the truth of who I am remained.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds of my life came from betrayal, manipulation, and the weight of toxic family dynamics. I was studied, judged, and used by people who should have protected me. I carried the silence of a mother who hid behind appearances and the hostility of a father who despised my existence. I endured jealousy, envy, and sabotage from those closest to me, and I learned what it felt like to have truth twisted into lies just to keep me small.

But those wounds did not break me, they built me. I healed by becoming a psychological alchemist, turning pain into wisdom and shadows into clarity. I stripped away illusions, exposed manipulation, and reclaimed my energy, my voice, and my boundaries. I discovered that what was meant to destroy me actually refined me.

My healing has been raw and revolutionary. It is rooted in self-discovery, guided by integrity, fueled by intelligence, and guarded by energy. I carry my freedom now, and I hold a lantern for others walking through their shadows, because I know that wounds can become wisdom, and betrayal can be the birthplace of liberation.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
One truth that is so foundational in my life that I rarely articulate it is my intelligence. It’s not the kind of intelligence that needs to be announced or constantly proven, because it shows itself in how I move, how I see through illusions, and how I navigate life. My intelligence has always been the quiet strength behind my choices, the clarity that keeps me grounded, and the vision that allows me to see further than what’s in front of me. I don’t have to speak it, because it’s woven into everything I do.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people tell the story of a woman who refused to stay silent in the face of lies, betrayal, and manipulation. A woman who walked through the fire of her wounds and turned them into wisdom. A woman who saw through illusions and taught others how to reclaim their truth, their energy, and their power.

I hope they say I was a psychological alchemist, someone who could take the raw pain of life and transform it into clarity, strength, and liberation, not just for myself, but for everyone who crossed my path. I want them to remember that my voice was fire and calm, compassion and ruthlessness, always carrying both truth and healing.

And above all, I hope they say I lived as a liberator, breaking chains, dismantling toxicity, and leaving behind a legacy that helped others rise from their own shadows.
