Amber Brumfield shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Amber , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Last year, my family gifted me a dog. My sweet Ayla. She’s a girl and an American Pit Bull Terrier, and I just love her so much. She’s about one year old now and has so much personality. I never thought I’d be able to communicate so well with a pup, but we are like two peas in a pod. We both love a delicious can of omega-3s (sardines), cuddling, and self-care days. That’s my babygirl!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amber Brumfield, and I’m a branding and headshot photographer based in Dallas, Texas. Through my business, Yellowhite Photography LLC, I help entrepreneurs, professionals, and creatives show up confidently with clean, striking imagery that reflects who they are and what they offer. Beyond photography, I’m an artist at heart, always exploring my creativity through new ideas, visuals, and forms of expression.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I used to think I needed to climb the corporate ladder to be truly successful. However, I’m learning that this was never the case. From 2024 up until now, I’ve realized that the rat race served its purpose, but it’s no longer where I belong. Sure, I was able to get the fancy home and car, but deep down I wanted more than just going to work and coming home.
Now, work looks very different for me. I prioritize my passion projects, enjoy slow mornings that allow me to savor breakfast with my coffee, prioritize my health, and check my emails when I’m ready.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The one kind thing I would say to my younger self is that you will grow up to have amazing discernment. You’ll be so connected with yourself it might scare you at first, but later it will feel like a superpower as you navigate the real world. You were gifted with this ability, and you should never take it for granted.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends know I do not play when it comes to putting yourself first. I remind them every time we get on this subject that in order to feel your most powerful self, you have to take care of you. I also love checking in on my girlie pops. We have this thing where we send each other a thousand and one TikToks, but if someone stops, it’s time to check in via voice message.
It might take us a couple of business days to reply, but that’s okay — it’s a safe space, and a girl dinner will surely be had to debrief our feelings afterward. I thank God for my amazing friendships and sisterhood.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, absolutely. I’ve always believed in being the oddball, the quiet one, or simply just different. As an artist, I’m always experimenting…especially in my everyday life. I’ve been working on finding my signature look and style for years, and I’m finally starting to see it pay off. This is all without considering anyone’s validation but my own, and I think that’s dope.
