We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amber Monroe. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Amber, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
Yes. Recently my 16yo autistic son was excluded from a class at one of our weekly homeschool co-ops because of his Autism.
After I spoke to the directors to plead that he not be dropped from his class (that I accompanied him to as his 1:1 aide), our entire family was dismissed from that organization with no explanation (a christian home educators academic resources co-op.)
As devastating as it was for all three of my children to be abruptly removed from not only their classes but from their sweet homeschool friends in Grand Prairie mid year, I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
It taught me a valuable lesson about not entertaining or patronizing people and places that do not appreciate your value.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Amber Monroe and I’m on a mission to empower ADHD/neurodivergent women to embrace their authentic selves (and their dreams) with unapologetic confidence. God has a purpose for us! Through lived experiences, and my special brand of comedy, I help women re-write their stories despite the labels the world has given them–just as I have rewritten mine. YES! You belong in important rooms doing big things!
I am also a wife, special needs mom, podcast host, comedian, and passionate artist with several published coloring books.
I recently starred in The Fleetwood Project’s Short on Drama event where I played “Rosie” in The Gunslinging Ballerina Strikes Again, a comedic mystery.
On January 10th in Arlington, I’m hosting a Women’s Neurodivergence Empowerment event called “Becoming Her: Confidence Redefined.”
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Oh wow, this brings up so many powerful emotions. As I child I was carefree, light-hearted, emotional, passionate, fun, and always performing silly skits for my friends to make them laugh.
Honestly, once I reached adulthood, I felt so pressured to cram most of these things deep down inside and mask who I truly was. I didn’t want to seem silly in a world that was so serious as a ‘grown up’. Especially once I had children to raise and be an example for.
While I still had a very silly side, I felt embarrassed by it, and only allowed myself to fully open up around certain people.
It took years for me to get to a place where I could admit that 1., People don’t grow out of their ADHD, and 2. The world needs what I have to offer. All of it. The fun, the silly, the light-hearted vibe, the sensitivity, and the reckless abandon when chasing after my dreams.
I love being able to bring that out in women like me via my various programs.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The things that frustrate you now will later become what powers your success. Your uniquely wired brain is a powerful thing.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
“You are only allowed to have one talent or gift in order to be successful.” (Laughs in ADHD!)
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Absolutely!! I love being able to speak to and mentor women like me and then see them begin to live boldly and unashamed in their passions and dreams.
Helping them to remove the shackles of their labels and what they “should” be doing feels as freeing for me as it does for them.
And even when I’m not coaching, I love throwing myself into all of my own creative projects. Weekly podcast interviews and working on my art truly helps to fill my cup. While it is a means for income as well of a way of life, it doesn’t often ‘feel’ like work.
And I think that’s one of the secrets to happiness.
