An Inspired Chat with Alia Miller of Denton

Alia Miller shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Alia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
At times I feel like I’m constantly getting stuck in the cycle of feeling too tired from my 9-5 to do anything else, but I’ve really been making an effort to change that. Lately, I’ve been rotating through all of my hobbies throughout the week so that I’m constantly doing something new but also doing things I like! Some days I’ll get into playing my cozy games on my switch, some days I’ll color my Bobbie Goods coloring books, or some days I’ll just dive into whatever book I’m reading. The possibilities are endless if you allow it!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello divas! My name is Alia Miller, I am a creative, model, fashionista, and wife here in the Dallas area. My priorities have shifted a little over the years. As much as modeling and doing makeup is a passion of mine, I find my time elsewhere that I have really been enjoying. Doing my nails has always been something I love. My nails are an extension of me, and allow me to express myself in ways I didn’t know I could. I have been doing my own nails for about 10 years, but for the past 5 years I have really been focusing on my craft. Seeing my growth in the past 5 years has really made me proud of myself. You have to give yourself credit where credit is due. It’s so much fun getting to be as fun and creative as I want. If I want mermaids nails I do it. If I want Valentine’s Day nails, I do it. The possibilities are seriously endless. Who knows, maybe the next time you guys see me I’ll have my own custom press on business, but for now I’m enjoying doing my own nails for fun!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I would have to say without a doubt, the relationship I have with my mom. I definitely get my creativity, my drive, my everything from her. She is my best friend and the coolest person I know. She has always made me feel confident in myself and my interests. When I first started my modeling career, she was the first one on board to support my journey. She always makes sure to give me my flowers, and that has shaped how I view and love myself. When you have people in your life who truly support you and give you so much love, that makes you feel confident and almost unstoppable. I truly feel like I can do anything if I put my mind to it and it’s all thanks to her. Thank you momma, I love you!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I feel like it’s a very common thing, but definitely the fear of not being good enough. Being a perfectionist at times really holds me back, because I’m always afraid of “will people like this?”, “Is the lighting good enough?”. I get in my own head at times, and that results in me not posting content that I was really excited for, or just not making content at all. It’s something I’m constantly working on because nothing will ever perfect and I have to be ok with that. I love creating and sharing my creations with people, and in the end that’s what really matters. I just have to remind myself and listen to my own advice.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think most of the people in my life can say that staying true to who I am is what matters most. Society is constantly telling us how we should look to fit a certain standard but there’s nothing fun about that. Wear that funky top, put on some sparkly pink eyeshadow, and go get that tattoo you’ve been wanting! Be who you want to be and don’t let others tell you how you should be. Be bold, be unique, and have most of all have fun! With social media being apart of my everyday life, it can get overwhelming sometimes wanting to compare myself and my success to other people. I have to remind myself that it’s my journey for a reason, and I’m right where I need to be. I love who I am and who I have become. I don’t need to change myself to better fit other people’s opinions.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope that people remember me as a vibrant, creative, down for anything, diva. I hope people will tell stories about how bold and fun I was with my fashion and makeup, I hope they tell stories about how smart and funny I was. I hope they tell stories about how great of a friend, daughter, partner I was. I want people to remember me as a very colorful and loyal individual who always wanted the people in her life to be happy. I hope they remember how much I love cats, trinkets, and the color pink. Or a little sweet treat and good song. Overall, I hope they remember the little things and tell all the memories that come with it.
