Good morning Allen, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me begins early with a focus on mindset and preparation. Once I arrive at the shop, my priority is setting the tone creating a welcoming environment for clients and ensuring the team is aligned and motivated. Throughout the day, I balance client appointments with mentorship, business management, and planning for future projects. In the evenings, I take time to reflect, spend time with family, and recharge. Each day is centered around growth, consistency, and maintaining the standard of excellence that defines TopNotch.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Allen, and I’m the owner of TopNotch Barbers, a space where quality, culture, and community come together. What started as a passion for the art of barbering has grown into a brand that represents professionalism, creativity, and connection. At TopNotch, we don’t just focus on haircuts we focus on experiences, confidence, and conversations that leave an impact.
Our mission is to raise the standard in the barber industry by blending precision, style, and an authentic vibe that clients can feel the moment they walk in. Beyond the chair, I’m passionate about mentoring upcoming barbers and creating opportunities for growth. And with TopNotch Barbers FW coming soon, we’re excited to expand that same culture and energy into a new community.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world had its expectations, I was simply a kid with a creative mind and a drive to build something real. I was curious, passionate, and motivated by the idea of turning vision into reality even when I didn’t have the full picture yet. That same drive still guides me today. Over time, I’ve learned that success doesn’t mean changing who you are to fit in it’s about staying true to your purpose, your values, and the person you were before the world tried to define you.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have definitely been moments when things felt heavy times when the pressure, setbacks, and responsibilities made me question if it was all worth it. But every challenge has taught me something valuable about resilience and purpose. What kept me going was remembering why I started and the people who believed in the vision. Those moments reminded me that growth isn’t easy, but it’s always worth it.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The version of me people see at TopNotch online, in the shop, or at events is real, but it’s just one side of the story. As TopNotch and as a businessman, what people don’t see are the long hours, tough decisions, and the grind behind the scenes. My work is about more than the energy and vibe; it’s about resilience, passion, and making sure every client leaves feeling their best. TopNotch reflects the real me someone who shows up fully, leads with purpose, and sets a standard of excellence in everything I do.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people remember that I built more than a barbershop I built a space for excellence, growth, and opportunity. That as TopNotch and as a businessman, I led with purpose, created meaningful experiences for my clients and team, and set a standard that inspired others to strive for their best.
