An Inspired Chat with Andrea Corres of Southlake

We recently had the chance to connect with Andrea Corres and have shared our conversation below.

Andrea, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I picked up running again after so many years and I truly enjoy it! I felt a little lost going through postpartum the second time around and going on runs definitely helped with finding myself again. After a run I feel so energized and clear minded, it’s the best feeling! It’s definitely a great stress reliever.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Andrea & I’m a hairstylist who specializes in lived in color, haircuts that compliment each unique face & tape-in extensions for added fullness or length! I truly enjoy doing what I do and I think that plays a huge part in my success. I want my clients to be in love with their hair and feel like a better version of themselves when they leave my chair; that’s the ultimate goal. This new year I’d love to work on adding in an assistant a day or two to help me accommodate more clients and I’d also love to expand my knowledge on hair extensions. After having a baby, you tend to shift majority of your focus to your baby and lose sight of your career goals/growth (which is completely valid.) I think that’s what I’ve been going through this past year or so and am now ready for some new challenges!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I was a very shy kid and rarely spoke up when I needed to. I tried to minimize my strengths to “not stand out.” I believe that with age I’ve learned to set boundaries and also speak up in situations that I need to. I’ve learned that being different and having a uniqueness about you is what makes you so I’ve definitely embraced that more and more as I age.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell “little me” to just stand out and be yourself! The more you do that, the people that are meant to be in your life will naturally gravitate towards you.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say yes, for the most part. There are things or situations I keep near and dear to my heart but I try to be an open book and realistic about life in general. I don’t ever portray that I’m perfect because I’m DEFINITELY not. I’m just private about certain areas of my life.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Having great hair, of course! But honestly, beyond that, I hope it would be our wonderful conversations. I have built such genuine connections with my clients and it truly feels like we’ve been part of each other’s life moments – the big milestones and the everyday ones. That connection is special to me!
