We recently had the chance to connect with Chef Brandon Emmitt and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Brandon, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
A normal day for me, when I first wake up, I pray to GOD (My Master). I thank GOD for another day, asking to continue guiding my steps, showing me the way.
Then work begins with emails, responding back to comments on my different social media platforms, phone calls with clients for booking, Inventory, reading, and always learning how to expand my business
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Brandon Emmitt, Owner/Chef of Emmitt’s Catering. I started my business in 2014 and have been cooking with love ever since. We cater, private chef, cooking classes, and food hosting.
GOD has blessed me and my business in a tredoimous way. What makes us so special is that we custom creates each menu for every event making it perosnal for each cilent making them for very special.
We cater all and any occassions and of course we also travel abroad sharing our love with the world.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Before I became a chef and business owner, I worked for a truck company as an 18-wheeler inspector. I never saw myself as anything special. The only thing most valuable thing I had and still have is GOD.
While working there, it was always two older guys who would tell me to go to school. They would say it so much, I would ask myself why they keep telling me that, and only me. The thing was, in my department, I wasn’t the only person or young person there.
I never heard them tell the other people I worked with that. Another thing that made it feel kinda odd is that one of the guys who told me to go to school was very quiet and didn’t speak to hardly anybody.
Most of the time, the guy wouldn’t even speak to me lol, but when he did talk to me, he would always tell me to go to school to better myself. And I would scratch my head because hours or days prior, he would see me and wouldn’t speak. That’s when I started realizing that GOD was using them to guide my steps, and to get through to me.
Later, this led me to start my culinary journey and future business owner. So I feel becoming a chef wasn’t my choice or by accident, I was meant to be a chef!
Another reason why I’m so thankful to GOD because GOD believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Not completely give up, but the thought ran across my mind, like what’s the use? Every so often, I find myself stuck within my business, as far as growing my business, advertising, prompting, etc Any real business owner knows what I mean by that lol.
Money not coming in fast enough, bills are due, should I go get a 9-5, the phones are not ringing enough, etc All business owners can relate to that.
It was during those moments that I had to self-reflect and remind myself why I started doing this in the first place. What’s the goal & mission here? The first thing is that GOD led me here, so he must believe in me. (If GOD brought you to it, then he will get you through it.)
One thing is certain: if I quit, I would never know what could have been, and as a man, I can’t live with that guilt. But if I continue with GOD leading me, then I will see all my dreams and more become a reality.
My goals are: for a better life for me and my family, create jobs within my community, help the homeless, and to always inspire by sharing my story with others on the platform that GOD has given me. If GOD can do it for me, then GOD can do it for you as well.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
My faith in GOD! If GOD said it, then I BELIEVE IT. That’s how I came this far, GOD is the CEO, and I’m the President. That’s why I have to pray daily asking GOD to show me the way by his guiding me and not ny following my own path.
I’m lost without GOD, he knows what is best for my life….
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely, cooking is my passion. I’m doing what I was called to do. I don’t do it for the money or fame. I have done events where I walked away making no money for myself, but I was so excited knowing that the event my team and I just did was a success.
It’s your dream; you must follow your heart and trust the vision that only God has shown you. No one else can see the blueprint except you. As long as I know I’m on the right track and giving it everything I got by putting my heart into it. That’s all that matters to me, and I can live with that.
Living life with regrets. ”Keep GOD first, never settle, believe in yourself, work hard, and keep and hold tight until your dream becomes a reality!!!”
