An Inspired Chat with Chelsie Washington of Dallas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chelsie Washington. Check out our conversation below.

Chelsie, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I would definitely say when I ran my first half marathon back in April. I trained for a solid 9 months and that time taught me that small, consistent steps can lead to something great. Something beyond you could ever imagine. Crossing that finish line was the best “job well done” I’ve ever experienced in my life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Sure! My name is Chelsie Washington. I’m a wife to my high school sweetheart, a mom to two boys, and a full-time employee in the field of education. Outside of work, I definitely like to dabble in my many hobbies like fitness, crafting, reading and roller skating. Something else I do outside of work that I’m currently trying to build is being a content creator under the user name Just Chelsie Things. Right now, I post mostly TikTok videos about motherhood, hobbies, and life lessons but I do want to build my YouTube channel in the future. I’m working on all of this because I believe it can be an avenue to set my family up for generational wealth. I think anyone that comes across one of my videos can see a quirky yet authentic energy.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I would have to say being overly humble. Growing up and well into adulthood, I thought it was rude or self-centered to brag on myself. Anytime anyone gave me a compliment, I almost didn’t believe them. I thought it was strange to take the compliment. Now, in my 30s, I’m seeing that it is okay to cheer for yourself and still have humility. There is a way to outwardly believe in yourself without bringing anyone else down. Of course, I am human and this is a muscle I’m just now strengthening so there are days that I fall short. But I’m just glad I see the importance of being your own biggest fan.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Oh man. Where do I begin? My younger self could definitely use a lot of love and kind words and, overall, reassurance. If I could say one kind thing, though, I would tell myself that she is worthy of acceptance without having to change who she is at her core.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Honestly, David Goggins. My little brother recommended his book “Can’t Hurt Me” to me and I have listened to the audiobook as well as read it a year later. David Goggins is living proof that hard work pays off and trying again after failure pays off even more. This man almost seems superhuman and it takes a lot of sacrifice to be the level of great that he is at. I’m sure it can be isolating but in order to be different, you can’t do things that everyone else does.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
These are some hard hitting questions. I can say, easily, graduating with my bachelor’s and going straight into work 2 days later. Don’t get me wrong: working hard for 5 years to achieve a degree is one of my greatest accomplishments. Likewise, I am very fortunate to have even gotten a job right after graduating college. However, after having my first son the following year, I realized that the 8 to 5 life was not the life for me. I wanted something different. Something more. Something family-centered and creative. It has taken me years, since then, to zero in on what I want to do and admit it to myself but I do believe it is content creation. Nothing brings me more joy (outside of my family haha) than to create and make something my own. And if I can spin that into something to help my family in the long run, why not?
