Christina Wei shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Christina, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Right now, the first 90 minutes of my day looks like after hygiene of course, is immediately going over to my living room laying down my yoga mat and taking in the view from my window. I normally set an intentional prayer and stretch. Then, I love enjoying a cup of coffee (normally hot, with simple half and half and monkfruit sweetner) while I journal. I like to have the first couple of hours to myself to reflect and set the tone for my day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Christina Wei, and for the past 6 years I’ve dedicated myself to building online businesses like Karache Kosmetics (cosmetics brand), Wei Society (ebooks, courses) and now Billboard Blvd (billboard agency). I have shared my journey on my YouTube Channel; Christina Wei and also on Instagram. I think my special talent is starting really low cost businesses and turning them into something successful. My billboard agency actually blew up overnight. I didn’t even get to officially launch it because it went viral so quickly! One night as I was planning my launch, I decided to upload some content onto the TikTok page so that it would have something on there when I launched. I woke up the next morning to several videos going viral and multiple bookings. I love being so hands on with my billboard clients, one of my favorite moments was planning a surprise birthday billboard. We had a Mercedes sprinter, drones, and videographer at one of the busiest billboards in the middle of Dallas!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
My hustle to survive. I think you can still have a successful career, be balanced while not overworking yourself. Before, that’s really all I did, I took on way too much than I could handle and was in this dangerous cycle of constant burnout. I would go an entire month without giving myself a day off because I felt that if I didn’t show up everyday, it would all fall apart.
Now, my work schedule is more organized and balanced. It’s definitely not perfect but I have stronger boundaries like times I stop working, actual days off and separate phones so I feel like “I’m off.”
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It taught me the biggest lesson of control. Before, I always tried to predict outcomes and control my life. This was because I wanted to have a sense of safety. Earlier this year, I went through something that I could not control and it put me in a position of surrender. I had moments were I had no clue what was going to happen next and had to sit uncomfortably in the unknown.
But it taught me so much. Now I worry less, andI trust myself and my path more.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My peace, all the way! I work really hard at making sure my life feels balanced and peaceful. I love a clean, light home and living space. I love being intentional with life and slowing down to enjoy experiences. Although, my work is mainly off of social media I do my best to be very present in my life and off my phones.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
I instantly can feel out of alignment when I have anxiety. I’m very in tune with my body and my intuition that I can quickly identify when something is off in my life. Since, I do self reflections often I would notice what am I not doing that I usually do? Have a been working too much? Giving my energy where it’s not being appreciated? When I stop being me, stop enjoying the things I love, stop getting ready for the day that’s when I know something is out of place.
