An Inspired Chat with Dfame of Lewisville

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dfame. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Dfame, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Whenever I’m writing, producing, or recording music, I quite literally lose track of time. I get lost into my work, and that’s when I really feel like I’m “myself”. That’s when I feel like I’m doing what I was born to do. Every song is written with a meaning, and I always feel like I turn into a different person when I’m writing! It’s like another personality comes out, and once the song is finished, I’m like “Did I write that?” Yes, yes, I did. Music will always be the air that I breathe, and I’m so grateful that God gave me the ability to create masterpieces and be the voice for those that can’t express their emotions.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Born and raised in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, I would definitely say that I’ve come a long way since I crossed the graduation stage. I always thought life after high school would come to an abrupt stop. I didn’t have the technology to create music at the time, so I didn’t know if I would even achieve that dream of becoming an artist. If you told the younger version of myself that I would have a whole discography and bio on Google, I wouldn’t believe it. Yet, all it takes is a “Who is Dfame?” and I pop up! Google can tell you one thing, but it’s always nice to “hear it from the horse’s mouth”. I’m a 21 year old singer, producer, and dancer based in the DFW area (specifically Lewisville). I started writing music in 2016 to cope with my depression (which I’m no longer in), and now I write to help those who cannot express their emotions. I went through numerous tribulations, so I know what it’s like to bottle emotions up. I’ve also gone through the hardships of love, so I can relate to those that have gone through a similar journey.
As of now, I am working on building my brand. My music attracts listeners from all over the world, but I want to build a local following. I want to walk around town and hear somebody say “That’s Dfame”. I’m grateful for the streams and support I get from across the world, but as I previously mentioned, growing a local following is important to me. This goal sparked the idea for the “Chasing Waterfalls Tour” which will highlight my latest album, “Chasing Waterfalls”. I will be staying local and performing my music at live music venues.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that you had to be perfect in order to be loved. My partner, Aussie, taught me that it’s okay to have flaws. I don’t have to be perfect at everything in order to feel worthy. His support helped grow my confidence and boost my self-esteem.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
As hinted in several of my songs, I used to battle depression. Like most people that suffer from it, I wanted to end my life at one point. I almost gave up on everything I was trying to build. And then one day, someone told me that they could relate to a song I had written about my depression. That’s when my life began. My eyes opened, and I could take a deep breath for the first time without wanting to hold it in. It was a magical feeling, and I started to think about those that bottle up their emotions. If I can be a voice for them, I could potentially help them get through their depression. Now I write not just for myself, but for them too.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I don’t mean this in a negative way, but not everybody gets to be a nepo baby. That’s just the truth. Some people in the music/entertainment industry got an advantage because of their parents or family members, while others had to start from the ground up. I, for one, am not a nepo baby, so I know that my journey to be a flourishing artist is going to be a long one. I also didn’t have the supplies I needed to start my career until I was already out of high school, so that’s another reason why it will take me a bit longer. If I was releasing music back in high school, I think my audience might have been a bit larger. Since I’ve finally discovered my sound, and I have everything I need for my career, I am committed to being a versatile artist no matter how long it takes.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m surrounded by my 3 wonderful kitties and my partner, Aussie, I am at peace. Nothing beats a home-cooked meal and a movie night with the kitties relaxing at the end of the bed. I’ve talked about how much music is important to me throughout most of this interview, but my family is also super important. Without their support, I wouldn’t be able to push through the challenges that come with being an aspiring artist.
