An Inspired Chat with Donyae Crockett of Mesquite

We recently had the chance to connect with Donyae Crockett and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Donyae , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
So while music is my first love right now I’m an active amateur boxer, when I was younger I was told that it was tough on the body something happened in my life that made boxing easier than life at the moment

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey Everyone
My name is Donyae Crockett but my friends call me Yae
I am an R&B artist, Mix engineer
And Amateur Boxer.
Right now I’m working on new music and building a space/venue in Dallas where Artists can be artists and have their creative minds nurtured

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be I was a Nerd.
I still am but I was all over the place I was a theatre kid
A band kid through college
A choir kid
An athlete that played all sports
An artist
I wanted to either work for DC comics as an illustrator
But eventually as you get older the world makes you pick and I chose music I’ve been choosing it ever since.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
As of recently I had taken a Hiatus from music to focus on boxing and finishing college and it’s made me rethink about if music is for me.
I’ll always be a musician and artist but with everything going on I’ve slowly been coming back to making music

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
No,
I don’t think the public version of anyone is the real them.
Theres A japanese saying is that we all have 3 differents faces, or more specifically 3 version of ourself :

” The first one you show to the world, the second you show to your family, and the last you never show to anyone “

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m immersed in music no matter the form
Be it if I’m performing, in the studio, vinyl hunting
I want to be involved in all sides of music
Because it’s always been a big part of my life
It’s always been a source of comfort for me
