An Inspired Chat with Ebony Botchway of Mansfield

Ebony Botchway shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Ebony , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I believe I’m walking a path, one that’s intentional, evolving, and deeply personal. Right now, I’m on a journey of discovering my true self, growing spiritually, physically, and emotionally. I’m learning how to care for myself in ways I never prioritized before, because I’ve realized that when I’m whole, I can give the best version of myself to others. I’m also building my brand and expanding my knowledge, aligning everything I do with purpose and clarity. It’s not always a straight line, but every step is meaningful and helping shape who I’m becoming.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ebony Botchway, and I’m the owner and creative behind A Touch of Heaven Photography. I’m based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, but I’m also a traveling photographer wherever the vision calls, I go. I’ve been in business for over 12 years, and throughout that time, I’ve never stopped evolving. I’m constantly learning, growing, and striving to offer something unique in a world full of photographers.

What makes my brand special is the intentional vibe I create for each client. I don’t just take pictures I craft experiences. Each session is personal, tailored, and heartfelt. My clients aren’t just customers; they become part of the A Touch of Heaven family. This business is more than work to me it’s my passion, my purpose, and truly my heart in visual form.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding my brand even more, incorporating deeper storytelling into my sessions, and capturing not just moments but emotion, energy, and essence. I want every person I photograph to feel seen, celebrated, and elevated.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that always felt obligated to be everything for everyone the fixer, the healer, the counselor, the prayer partner, the shoulder to lean on that version of me has served its purpose. For so long, I was the go-to person, always showing up, carrying others through their pain, and making sure no one ever felt alone. And while I’m still a nurturing and supportive presence, I’ve learned the importance of boundaries.

I’ve realized that constantly being available, especially to people who may not be available to me in return, can be draining and one-sided. I’ve also come to understand that stepping in to fix everything for others can sometimes hinder their growth. So now, I give from a full cup. I’ve released the need to always be the strong one, and instead I allow myself space to rest, to regroup, and to prioritize my own healing and peace.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
It wasn’t until I came face-to-face with the possibility of losing my life that everything shifted. For a long time, I carried pain silently, believing it made me weak or somehow less than. But through that journey, I realized that everything I endured was not a setback it was a stepping stone, a lesson, a blessing, and a wake-up call.

From 2023 to 2025, I battled lupus. It challenged me physically, mentally, and spiritually. But through consistent prayer, lifestyle changes, and a renewed commitment to my health and well-being, I began to see transformation. As of April 2025, my results came back negative. That moment empowered me to stop hiding and start rising.

Now, I walk boldly in who I am choosing to prioritize myself, honor my journey, and step fully into the will of God. My pain has become my power, and it’s what drives me to be the best version of myself every single day.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I’ve always shown up as my true self, what you see is what you get. That’s been my personal motto from the start. I don’t believe in putting on a mask or trying to be anyone else just to fit in. I have no desire to blend in with the crowd or be like the masses.

I walk in my truth so that I’m never burdened by the pressure to perform or pretend. I’m Ebony Botchway, unapologetically!! There’s only one me, and as I always say, there’s no way like the Botch-way. It’s a vibe over here!

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in the comfort of my own home, no obligations, no expectations just me, my music, and my space. There’s something healing about dancing freely in my living room, laughing at silly videos, playing with my dog, and simply being present with my children and grandchildren. Those little everyday moments, filled with love, laughter, and authenticity, are where I find my calm and my joy.
