We recently had the chance to connect with Jalisa Hamiton and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalisa, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
A lot of people don’t realize DJing is an art form and a skill set.
You’re reading the crowd, matching beats, balancing sound levels, and creating an emotional flow — all in real time.
It’s not just about “playing songs,” it’s about curating moments.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m DJ JLex, creator of Blending Bae Timeless Vibes a brand that’s all about music, energy, and connection. I’m a Dallas-based DJ who believes every crowd deserves to feel seen and uplifted through sound.
My music is diverse, blending everything from R&B and hip-hop to Afrobeats, soca, pop, and beyond. I love creating memorable moments the smiles, the dancing, and the feeling of taking people on a musical journey they’ll never forget.
Whether I’m performing in Dallas, New York, or anywhere in between, my goal is always to deliver timeless vibes that move both hearts and crowds.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was just a girl who loved music, energy, and people. I was the one who found joy in making others smile, even through chaos. Music has always been my peace, long before it became my profession.
Back then, I didn’t worry about image or expectations. I just moved with whatever felt real rhythm, emotion, and connection. In a way, DJing brought me back to that version of myself: the one who feels most alive when creating moments that make people forget their worries and just feel.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, more than once. There were moments when life felt too heavy, when the noise around me got louder than my purpose, and I questioned if what I was doing even mattered. Between personal losses, disappointments, and trying to hold it all together, I reached points where walking away felt easier than holding on.
But every time I got close to giving up, God reminded me why I started. Music became my therapy, my way of healing myself while helping others escape, even if just for a few minutes. I realized that my gift wasn’t just about mixing songs; it was about mixing emotions, hope, and connection.
So, I didn’t give up. I let the pain push me into purpose. And now, every set I play is a reminder that even in my lowest moments, I was being prepared to lift others higher
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, but it’s the strongest version of me. The energy, the smile, the confidence, that’s all real, but it comes from someone who’s been through storms and still chooses to show up.
When I’m DJing or spreading good energy, I’m not pretending I’m pouring. The public me is real, but it’s also the healed and hopeful me. The rest of me lives in the quiet moments, the prayers, and the lessons that keep me grounded enough to shine.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand that energy is everything it speaks before words ever do. The way you make people feel lasts longer than anything you say or do.
That’s why, when I DJ, it’s not just about playing music; it’s about transferring energy creating a moment where everyone feels connected, even if just for a song.
Most people focus on being seen or heard. I focus on being felt. Because when you move someone’s spirit, that’s what truly lasts.
