We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jennifer Gowans. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Jennifer, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think most people, no matter what age they are, struggle with wondering “is this what I’m suppose to be doing?” We often wonder are we truly fulfilling our purpose. It’s typically an internal question, so you may not hear one say it out loud, but it’s a thought we all struggle with. I think everyone wants to be sure that when we leave the earth, we’ve achieved our purpose in life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jennifer Gowans aka “The real housewife of Texas!” I wear many hats. I’m a wife, mother, grandmother and professionally a Certified Relationship Life Coach/Podcaster. I’m in a really unique space right now, because I also, battle Kidney Disease. So, I am an ambassador for The American Kidney Fund. I teach people and advocate for Kidney Disease Awareness. I have worked in the relationship business for over 15 years. I’ve worked for 2 of the top dating firms in the Dallas- Fort Worth Metroplex and have aided in Matching some of Texas’s most elite singles! I also, have owned my own business hosting Single’s Events at a restaurant formally known as Buttons Fort Worth. My husband and I have a podcast (that is currently being revamped) called, The Real Housewife of Texas, where we discuss all things relationship related! We have also, previously hosted workshops, seminars and had our own talk radio show on a internet radio station back in 2010, on kmocradio.com. I now, coach individual clients and stay connected in the Dating World! So, ”being SINGLE, is my business!” Individual coaching allows me the flexibility to take care of my health AND, stay doing what I love! I currently have a lovely Las Colinas based couple that has been married for 16 years and a new blossoming couple that was recently matched! “Love remains in the AIR!”
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think that “Betrayal” breaks the bond between people. It could be a parent, family member, friendship, or relationship. Nothing cuts deeper than betrayal! However, in some cases relationships can be restored if there is “accountability and “trust being built back up. This is very delicate though, because there are some bonds that may forever stay broken and that is unfortunate!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Continue to believe in love, because you will be instrumental in helping some people find it!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie of my industry would be, that love is JUST a feeling. Love is nothing without the commitment to the feeling. You have to be committed to the feeling in order to stay in love with a person. That takes making an effort to stay committed to loving the person every day!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand that in life you will meet your “soulmate,” but it may not be in the form of a romantic relationship for a soulmate can be a friend.
