We recently had the chance to connect with Jer’Miya Newton and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Jer’Miya, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Over the last few months I’ve taken the hobby of gardening. I’ve started a garden in the backyard of my grandparents house. It’s bring me nothing but joy ! The patience that it has taught me, the spirituality of planting seeds! It’s been nothing but a blessing. I’ve also taken on Roller Skating. It’s been so fun learning something new. It’s also been very humbling as well. The skate community has grown on me in so many ways. I’ve met so many new people from all around different backgrounds and states, made new friends and traveled a little. Fun new experiences.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jer’Miya Newton, aka Big JERM — as from the past article I was an hairstylist which I still am. Since then I’m the founder and face behind a growing fitness brand Michelle’s Training Lab. That’s all about helping people tap into their power, build confidence, and transform their lifestyle. Whether it’s through training, mindset, or motivation, I’m here to remind people of their strength and potential — both in and out of the gym.
I’m a fitness coach, motivator, and entrepreneur with a mission to help people not just look strong, but feel strong — mentally, physically, and emotionally. My journey started with my own transformation: learning how to push through pain, self-doubt, and setbacks to become the best version of myself. Now, I use that same energy to help others do the same.
I’m also the creator of ReVive: Remembering Your Value, a fitness clothing line designed for Men & Women who live a healthy lifestyle, Wants to change their lifestyle overall and want to feel strong, sexy, and confident doing it. ReVive isn’t just apparel — it’s a movement that empowers Women & Men to embrace their worth and show up for themselves, every single day.
I’ve recently gotten into bodybuilding—something totally new for me. I’m still learning the ropes and figuring out if it’s truly my lane, but so far, I’m loving the journey. I don’t have too many details to share just yet… we’ll see how I feel after my first show!
What makes me different? I’m not afraid to show the process — the highs, the lows, the grind, and the growth. I built this from the ground up with vision, faith, and hustle. I care deeply about the people I reach and the message I leave behind. I’m not just here to coach — I’m here to connect.
Right now, I’m focused on building both brands with intention — creating powerful content, connecting with my community, and pushing toward the next level mentally, physically, and spiritually. I’m helping people become the version of themselves they were always meant to be.
This is just the beginning — and I’m just getting STARTED.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The version of me from 2–3 years ago.
At 24, I’ve grown in ways I never imagined. I’ve outgrown old habits, old mindsets, and even some relationships. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that not everyone can come with you — and that’s okay. Growth comes with distance sometimes. You’ll go through seasons where you feel detached from friends or even family, but those seasons are necessary. They create space for clarity, healing, and elevation.
That me has served its purpose. I’m no longer holding onto the past version of me — because the future I’m building requires a higher one.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
After I got certified, building a consistent clientele was tough — especially after relocating to a new area where I didn’t know anyone. I had no network, no direction, and was completely out of my comfort zone. I decided to take a leap and joined a private gym, DDD Performance Center, hoping to find my footing. But that first year? It tested everything in me.
I was gaining clients, but they weren’t sticking. My numbers were up and down, and I was still trying to learn the area, meet new people, and build trust in a brand-new environment. On top of that, I was pushing myself to stay consistent with content, marketing, and building a name for myself — and it felt like none of it was hitting the way I needed it to. I was frustrated. I wanted to quit.
But I didn’t. I kept showing up.
Now I’m flourishing more than ever. Looking back, I realize all I needed was patience and a deep trust in the process. Everything I was working toward was already aligning — I just had to keep going until it caught up with me.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Always build your foundation first.
Without a solid foundation, nothing lasting can be built. Whether it’s in business, fitness, relationships, or personal growth — when your roots are strong, everything else will fall into place. After learning that, I protect that principle in everything I do.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What light inside you have you been dimming?
The light I’ve been dimming is the truth that age doesn’t define worth—because regardless of how old I am, I’m ahead of most. I bring value to every space I enter and to every person I meet. It doesn’t matter who, what, when, or how—I’ll always show up as me. I can’t keep second-guessing myself or holding back based on what others might think, see, or assume. That’s no longer my burden to carry.
