An Inspired Chat with Joshua Clark of Downtown Dallas

Joshua Clark shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I have a deep appreciation for film, whether it’s experienced in a theater, at home, or watching anime. Engaging with visual storytelling in this way allows me to step away from the demands of work and the constant motion of creative thinking. As someone whose mind is always active—planning, imagining, and creating—watching a film offers a rare moment of stillness. It provides a mental reset, helping me recharge while also reconnecting with the present, my sense of self, and the beauty of life. Additionally, the artistic inspiration I draw from these experiences often fuels new ideas, poems, and creative works.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Roses, founder of Sculpted Roses Company. I like to describe myself as a modern-day Renaissance man—a millennial creative offering services in commissioned art, public speaking, writing, and influencer marketing. Through our company, we support businesses, organizations, and individuals on their journey of growth by crafting meaningful experiences that blend life coaching with the transformative power of the arts.

What sets us apart is our unique approach: we integrate the art of poetry and storytelling into marketing, advertising, and motivational speaking. This fusion not only enhances brand vision but also uplifts the mindset and engagement of those we collaborate with.

Currently, we are actively seeking partnerships with clothing and footwear brands. We are also leading the Texas Chapter of the Poetry Business Network, where we equip aspiring poets with the tools to build sustainable, profitable creative careers. In addition, we continue to expand our collaborations with fellow creatives and businesses to inspire, innovate, and make lasting impact.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
Growing up, my father instilled in me the importance of perseverance, hard work, and resilience—encouraging me to push through challenges and “burn the midnight oil.” While I initially struggled with giving in during difficult times, through faith, personal growth, and the wisdom passed down from my father, I’ve learned to confront and transform those tendencies. What once held me back has now become a foundation for developing healthier patterns and positive attributes.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Throughout my professional journey, I’ve encountered moments of deep struggle—times that brought me so low, the only direction left was upward. But the decision to rise wasn’t born of pressure; it came from a genuine desire for change. Through those experiences, I discovered an inner strength and self-belief that had always been within me. While suffering can be a powerful catalyst for growth and clarity—often pushing us to make decisions we’ve long avoided—it doesn’t have to be our only teacher. Growth is possible through intention, not just pain.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The short answer is no—but it’s something I am intentionally working on every day. Striving to be your most authentic self in every aspect of life is a goal more valuable than any external reward. I once heard a powerful message that framed it this way: we should aim to live integrated lives—lives where we consistently show up as the same person in all environments.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in a few key spaces: on Sundays at church, while enjoying a quiet moment in a coffee shop, taking late-night walks and writing, or sitting in a theater. My relationship with God has shaped me into what I like to call an “imperfect perfection”—a work in progress, continually striving to become the version of myself that He sees. It’s a daily challenge, but one that prayer and faith help me navigate with confidence.

As a writer, I thrive in creative environments—whether I’m tucked away in a quiet corner surrounded by people or walking through Downtown Dallas, capturing ideas and expanding on notes stored in my phone. Poetry flows naturally through me and is essential to how I process and move through life. When I intentionally set aside time to disconnect from the noise and immerse myself in the world of poetry, I enter a flow state that grounds and renews me.

The theater, in particular, has always been a sanctuary for me—theater in the truest, most traditional sense. I’m a bit old-school; I rarely stream content. I prefer the full experience of a drive-in or theater, and if that’s not possible, I’ll purchase the DVD (not Blu-ray!) and add it to my personal collection. These practices, these spaces, are deeply tied to my peace and help me stay connected to both my inner self and my childlike sense of wonder and imagination.
