We recently had the chance to connect with Lan Pham and have shared our conversation below.
Lan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
There are SO many things that bring me joy. Joy, for me, comes in the simplest ways.
Lately, I find joy in having someone that I can call and say good morning and good night to. It is having my little sister sit with me at the end of the day to debrief our silly lives together. It comes in the form of standing at a concert listening to live music. Even when I am in a Zumba workout class with the best friends, I find so much joy in that!
Joy also comes in the form of my parents growing in age but still wanting to spend time with me and getting to know who I am today. It is the hugs and “I love you to the moon and back” that I receive from my 4 year old goddaughter on a weekly basis. And it is in the little moments like finding my favorite bag of pickle chips at Jersey Mike’s!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Lan Pham, is my full name, and I am a daughter to my immigrant parents, sister to the best siblings in the world, and godmother to the sweetest little person. I am the Director of Operations for DPC Health, Magic Touch, MD, and Synergy Scripts — our empire over in Keller, TX. I am a volunteer Sunday school teacher and interim youth director at my church. And I sit on the Board of Directors for two non-profit organizations, Hand-in-Hand Share Missions and Dental Health Arlington.
DPC Health is a membership-based clinic that provides all your primary, urgent, and emergent care needs as well as personalized services in weight loss, hormones, and peptide therapy. I am very proud to represent this clinic that tries to redefine medical care by bringing affordable and accessible healthcare through those in need.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to do a lot of super cool things. In 2023, I won second place in the Dallas Mavericks Business Assist Pitch Competition which was nerve-wrecking but also the best experience I ever had in front of a crowd. And last year, I was awarded as Arlington’s 40 under 40 and I am honored to continuing serving the community that I was born and raised.
I love saying this and I mean it wholeheartedly. Everything that I am and everything that I do is an ongoing love letter I’m writing to my late grandmother, parents, siblings, goddaughter, and youth kids. They are my inspiration in everything.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Obviously, my parents. I am leading their legacy and everything that I am is a result of my parents and what they have instilled within me.
I am my father’s daughter. We are both social butterflies that get energized being around other people and love learning about other’s stories. I am confident, independent, and easy-going because my dad taught me to be. Through his eyes, I know that I am more than capable of achieving all the things that I want and that I am in charge of my own happiness.
When it comes to my willingness to serve others, being incredibly family-oriented, and keeping strong, I would say I learn these qualities from my mom. She has always put others before herself, especially her family, and remains resilient no matter the circumstances. I used to grow up thinking that we were so different from each other. But today, I can truly say that my mom is selfless and kind. If I did not inherit her qualities entirely yet, then I aspire to me more like her.
The work that I do in my community and the desire that I have to make a difference in the world is a testament to my parents and how they have raised me. I am who I am because of them.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
To be completely honest, I know I am normally an optimistic go-getter, but I want to give up all the time!!!
The hard part about being an overly passionate person in everything that I do is that when I get burnt out, I really get burnt out, and giving up seems like the easy way out. But fortunately for me, I have the best support system in my friends and family who continually remind me of the impact that I’m making and give me room to reroute myself back to the main focus.
An easy example of this would be some of the work that I do for our nonprofit. It can be tiring and draining being one person trying to manage all of the little tasks required to lead a successful project like our Local Mission. But at the end of the day, I have to think about the people that care about that project more than me. In this case, the volunteers love our Local Missions. There have been so many youth students that stepped up to become leaders in this mission and when I asked them if they care about this project enough for us to continue it — the answer was unanimously a yes. It is because of them that I continue to do what I do and not give up.
And I guess that’s something to make note of. Nothing that I do requires just me alone to do it. It requires an incredible team of dedicated individuals who share the same values and mission as me. It’s because of them that I can’t and won’t give up.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Always.
I get to lecture high school kids all the time at speaking gigs and one thing I always say is “be authentically you” because you are the best version of yourself today than you were yesterday. And the world wants more of you!
If you follow me on the internet, you know that I am authentically myself. I post videos of me doing car jams no matter how bad I sound. I am making embarrassing off-beat dancing videos. I talk on video when no one asked me to. Whatever thing you would never dare to do, I probably have done it because I like to!
The thing about me is I’m not very good at hiding my emotions. What you see from me is what you get and it is truly me.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
One of my biggest fears (how silly) in life is leaving the world without making an impact. I hope and want to believe that I have inspired someone along the ways of my carefree, overly passionate kind of living.
I say this a lot and I really mean it. If my immortality ever fails me, I hope everyone knows that I have lived a fulfilled and happy life — and there are so many things that I have yet to do! I have loved and met the most amazing people in this lifetime. I treat my life as if I’m in a tv sitcom and find the humor in every inconvenience. I love going to concerts and have crossed off so many shows off my bucket list like Panic! at the Disco, Drake, J Cole, Justin Bieber, and BTS to name a few. My story and journey have been SO fun and I truly feel so lucky.
There are more things to be done and I’m excited to get the chance to them as time goes on.
But I hope my story continues to live on in my siblings, goddaughter, and youth kids.
And don’t forget, I want Legend by Drake playing at my funeral if that day ever arrives. It probably won’t though. My grandmother lived to be 98 years old. With my luck, I will be living for many lifetimes!
