An Inspired Chat with Madelynn Shae

We recently had the chance to connect with Madelynn Shae and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Madelynn , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Once I settle down for the night after a long day, I find myself in my writing room with my guitar. In that moment anything on my mind comes out in a song. The time flies by, but in those hours I am free to be myself. I’ll look at the clock and it’s past midnight, and I am not tired because I feel this song’s story is almost complete. I love starting something and following it all the way through.

Music and writing helped me find myself again, I went through a long hard year and stepped away from publishing music. I took time away from platforms and strictly stuck to writing stories and turning it into songs. They didn’t have to be listened to, It was mostly for me to find my sound and find what separates my music from others in the industry. What was my writing style? What story do I want to tell? At the end of the day, what do I want people to remember me by? When I learned the answer, that’s when I found myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Madelynn Shae! I am a singer/ songwriter based in Dallas Texas.
I had always had a passion for music and art at a young age. I started my musical journey as a worship leader for a church in downtown Dallas. Seeing and hearing people connect to the music, pushed the passion of mine quickly.
I decided to jump into a genre I loved more than anything. Country music, I started to create heartfelt lyrics, crafting songs that dig deep into personal experiences, blending vulnerability with strength.

After a hard breakup in 2021, I took a chance and released my debut EP, “What You Deserve”, knowing very little of the industry. I stayed true to my story telling and wanted other people to know they weren’t alone.

Fast forward four years, I have released many original tracks, reaching over 52 countries.
Launched my most recent release my EP “CRIMES” — a bold and haunting collection of four songs that chronicles the emotional betrayals that led to the collapse of a relationship. Each track unpacks the “crimes” he committed, turning heartbreak into a powerful, fiery soundtrack of resilience and reckoning.

I have learned many lessons over the years. I’ve faced a lot of self doubt and fear along the way. At the end of the day I remind myself that the reason I do this, is to invite listeners to find pieces of their own story in mine.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My best friend Tyler Sanchez, Tyler and I have known each other for over six years. Tyler stood with me during the hardest years of my life. He was the biggest reason I became a songwriter and artist. I had always loved the idea of being an artist but never believed I could show my passion to the world. During the year 2022, I mentally and emotionally was at my lowest. He pushed me to create “What you Deserve -EP” and follow my dreams. He always believed in me, I am forever thankful that he did.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, in August of 2024 after releasing seven original tracks and four years of hard work. I was confronted by my then distribution company and Spotify claiming I had paid bots to stream my original tracks artificially. Claiming my streams were not organic leading to the take down of all original music.
My listeners and myself were taken back over the news, leaving many canceling their subscriptions with Spotify. My listeners felt that they couldn’t listen to their favorite songs without punishment for me as a small artist. When the music was taken down, I stepped away from all social media and writing. I aimed my focus towards my personal life. I was unsure if I would return to music, while I decided. I knew I wanted to come back stronger than I ever have. I took the time to understand who I was, where I was going and planned to create something beautiful, and I did.
I re- released all my original tracks and currently working on my new project for the spring.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to building a career in music, no matter how long it takes. Music is not just something I enjoy, it is how I express myself, connect with others and make sense of the world. My goal is to become a full time songwriter in Nashville Tennessee.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I am home. There is something about the quietness. It’s me and my thoughts, and I’m able to unwind and relax and create a new idea for the next project.
