We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sal Hernandez. Check out our conversation below.
Sal, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Mindset. Everything starts with your mindset, and how you use it will ultimately determine where you end up in life. I am very proud of where I am now, thanks to the mindset I devoted myself to have when things were really tough.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Salvador, I am a New Home Sales Consultant in McKinney TX.
We’re currently in Phase 1 of 8, meeting with families who are looking to move into an area offering exceptional value, strong pricing, and significant appreciation potential.
From my previous story with Voyage Dallas you can identify that I did not stop growing who I am and who I want to become. You can also see that I still hold the same values and morals throughout challenges.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. Both my father and mother had multiple jobs when my sister and I were very young. I understand, that this is many people‘s experience growing up as well, but something that stays in the back of my mind is a time when my father, sister & I were at a family store waiting for my uncle to show up with a truck he bought from a mom and pop shop. We went on the test drive during that test drive the truck broke down. My dad and my uncle quickly got out to push the truck for 15 minutes straight to get to the nearest gas station. I remember there was a Burger King on the corner. My dad sister and I walked over there to grab something to eat. My dad ordered a burger and he cut that same burger in three pieces with tears in his eyes. I remember this part like it was yesterday. At the time I thought that he was upset because the truck broke down but he told me growing up that he was upset because we were down to our last $10 bill and he was going to pay my uncle in monthly installments after he got the truck from him.
I could imagine how he felt when everything was falling apart, but one of the many things that my parents have passed onto me is to never give up not only with words but with their actions.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’m very proud of you. Everything you are stressing about will be resolved with hard work and self commitment.
Stop trying to rush everything- you’re already becoming who you need to be.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I believe a deep and profound change comes when you hit rock bottom or when something happens to either you or someone you love. The real foundational shift that happened to me is when I was going through a really dark time in my life- I isolated myself for a bit, deleted all social media and stayed off all social media for 2 years. During this time I was a top sales performer for a domestic car dealership, going to the gym daily, eating right and making sure my mindset does a 180 degree turn because I knew that no one is going to save me but myself. God has blessed me with a mindset that is untouchable to fads and to temporary changes, time and time again I remember where I came from and my mind will never go down the quitting route.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Absolutely, I love helping families find their forever, retirement, or their first new home in my community in McKinney TX.
Seeing their eyes light up when they walk into our award winning floor-plans brings me joy because I know that I am assisting them with buying a new home that truly does hold it’s value and appreciates instantly.
