An Inspired Chat with Sequoia Boyd of Arlington

We recently had the chance to connect with Sequoia Boyd and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sequoia , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
The easiest way for me to lose track of time is crafting or creating something special. There have been plenty of days when I start a project during the day and by the time I look up it’s evening time. Crafting brings me peace and happiness each time I start something new.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sequoia and I am the owner of Everlasting Events DFW. I started this brand in memory of my grandmother that passed a few years back and also for my love for event planning. I’ve always planned small events for my children, friends and family over the years and watching how much joy it brings to their faces makes me extremely grateful. As we continue to elevate our brand and exposure in the DFW community, we always aim to make our clients feel that same gratitude during their events.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that shaped me the most about how I see myself is my parents. My parents have been my rock for my entire life. No matter how far I strayed away or obstacles I created for myself, they never left my side. My parents have always encouraged me to believe in myself, follow my dream and remember that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. Without my parents I don’t know where I’d be.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been plenty of times when I’ve almost given up. I think over the years I’ve had a lot of different obstacles that I’ve faced and carried a lot of weight on my shoulders that sometimes I almost gave up. Even though there were difficult times those moments showed me how strong I truly am and how I can overcome anything that may seem hard. Starting my business has thought me even in the midst of a storm, there can be sunshine.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie my industry tells in my opinion is “It’s just balloons. How hard can it be?” A lot of people look at the balloon industry and think that blowing up balloons is very easy and they quickly learn that it is not. I spent a lot of hours trying to learn the industry, learning different techniques to use, how to install balloons to certain backdrops etc. Not to mention a lot of trial and error in the beginning. The industry is always progressing which means there’s always more things to learn.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
Tapping into my full potential out of the fear of failure. I feel like there is a part of me that can truly tap into all of my hobbies and interests but due to my responsibilities, time limitations and let’s face it, my fears, I won’t allow myself to go there. Hopefully I can overcome that fear and allow myself to be better than I imagine.
