An Inspired Chat with Susan Semmelmann

Susan Semmelmann shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Susan, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
The most surprising thing I’ve learned about my clients is how deeply personal design really is for them. At first glance, it may seem like people come to us for a beautiful home, but what they’re really seeking is a space that reflects their story, their values, and the way they want to live. Time and again, I’ve been amazed at how a conversation about fabrics or floor plans opens the door to their dreams, traditions, and even their fears. It’s taught me that design is never just about aesthetics—it’s about creating meaning. That realization keeps me grounded in our mission to serve first, because when you listen with your heart, the work becomes less about furniture and finishes and more about giving people a sanctuary that celebrates who they are.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Susan Semmelmann, founder and visionary behind Semmelmann Interiors, a couture design firm based in Fort Worth, Texas. Our work is rooted in the belief that design should do more than create beauty. It should serve, inspire, and tell a story. Over the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of leading a team of over 30 radical creators who specialize in building luxury homes that reflect our clients’ lives down to the finest detail.

Our signature style, organic glamour, blends the richness of luxury with the ease of nature to create spaces that are bold, inviting, and deeply personal. What sets us apart is not just the design itself, but the way we serve: offering a turn-key, concierge experience that removes the stress from the process so clients can simply turn the key and step into the home of their dreams.
Alongside our design work, giving back is at the heart of everything we do. Through the Susan Semmelmann Foundation and partnerships with organizations like St. Jude, Austin Angels, and A Wish With Wings, we use design as a way to bring dignity, comfort, and hope to families in need.

Right now, we’re launching our couture product line, preparing to showcase our work at the 2026 St. Jude charity showhouse in Southlake, and continuing to expand our reach across Dallas-Fort Worth and beyond.
For me, it all comes down to this: the most beautiful thing we can build isn’t just a home. It’s a life filled with meaning, connection, and generosity.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Who taught you the most about work?
The people who taught me the most about work are my father and my husband.
My dad was a military man and a football coach, and from him I learned discipline, perseverance, and the value of showing up no matter how hard the day feels. He taught me that work is not just about effort, it is about attitude and consistency, and those lessons became the foundation of my character.

My husband, Marc, taught me something just as important through his battle with a rare form of cancer. Watching him fight for his life showed me what resilience, faith, and perspective truly mean. His journey reminded me that work is not just about achieving goals, it is about gratitude, serving others, and making every day count.

Together, their influence taught me that real success is measured not only in what you build, but in how you live while you build it, with grit, grace, and purpose.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust the process and have faith that every trial has purpose. The moments that feel overwhelming will one day become the very experiences that strengthen you and shape your calling. You do not have to have it all figured out. Just keep showing up with grit, grace, and gratitude, and God will meet you with the wisdom and strength you need. One day you will look back and realize that even the hardest seasons were building something beautiful in you.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire God most for His character. He is all-powerful, yet what moves me most is that His power is always balanced by mercy and grace. He could lead with authority alone, but instead He leads with love, patience, and forgiveness. That combination is what makes Him a good Father. His character reminds me daily that true strength is not found in dominance, but in compassion, humility, and generosity. It is His example that inspires me to lead my life and my work with a posture of servanthood, because His goodness shows us that character is what endures.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in the quiet, simple moments. When I am journaling, I can clear my mind and let gratitude and prayer guide my thoughts. When I am at the lake, surrounded by the stillness of nature, I feel God’s presence in a way that calms my spirit. And when I am with my family, no matter where we are, I am reminded that peace is not found in circumstances but in the love we share. Those moments of reflection, stillness, and connection bring me the deepest sense of peace and remind me of what truly matters.
