Antonio Palomarez of Grand Prairie on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Antonio Palomarez. Check out our conversation below.

Antonio, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
As a barber, I feel like our community is misjudged heavily based our appearance and stereotypes. Since we didn’t go to a formal college or university, people judge our capabilities and talent. However, barbering is a form of art and entrepreneurship without a degree, in this game you work and meet people with truly creative minds and unmatched grit that you can’t find elsewhere. In addition, people don’t consider us “professionals”, when in reality we have gone through extensive training and continuing education like any other profession just in a different form.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Antonio Palomarez, and I’m a barber at TopNotch Barbers Barbershop in Grand Prairie, Texas, proudly serving clients across the DFW area. Before discovering my passion for barbering, I served four years in the United States Marine Corps, where I was fortunate to travel, gain new perspectives, and develop the discipline, dedication, and attention to detail that I bring into my craft today. I enjoy challenging myself in different aspects of life, including competitive body building. As a barber, my purpose is to highlight my clients self-confidence through quality cuts.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Marines have a saying, “Once a Marine, always a Marine”. As a veteran, that part of me will always remain, and I’m learning how to carry those values with balance into my life and my work behind the chair. The discipline, respect, and commitment I gained shaped the way I serve my clients today.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me to find moments of positivity even in hardship. Embracing this mindset has strengthened my resilience, helping me push through challenges that once felt like they had no end in sight.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Everyone needs a sidekick to help guide and support them along the way. For me, that person is my fiancé, Bessy. She has poured into me with her natural creativity and unique vision, helping shape my brand and expand my reach in ways I couldn’t have imagined or executed on my own. Her drive and talent push me forward, and I feel truly blessed to have a partner who believes in and supports my dreams.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Barbering has taught me the true value of confidence. Many times, clients sit in my chair with no specific request just to make them look their best. That’s where I thrive, using my knowledge and passion for the art of barbering to deliver a cut that fits them the best. The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing that moment when a client sees themselves in the mirror and feels a renewed sense of confidence.
