Art & Life with Eustace Wehner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eustace Wehner.

Eustace, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am an Executive Chef from the Virgin Islands. I moved from the Virgin Islands to Boston, MA where I studied culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu and worked alongside some of Boston’s top chefs. I am a globally inspired chef and enjoy traveling for food and networking with chefs around the world. While in Boston, I started my own catering and event planning company and operated two restaurants. After spending years in Boston, I moved to Dallas TX where I continue my career. I now host a monthly event called International Tastes Series; it’s a focus on food and wine and their history, education, and techniques behind it. Every month I focus on a different cuisine from around the world with a live chef demonstration.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Due to my love for history and food, I like to tell stories about why the world is one when it comes to food. At my show/demo, I focus on multi-cultural cuisines and talk about events that occur in history for these cuisines to cross path. For example, one of my event I demo crab ravioli using wonton dough. I told a story about a man from Thailand who moved to Italy and worked in an Italian restaurant. He was ordered to make ravioli’s but didn’t know how to, the only thing that familiarize him to the dish was dumplings and made ravioli using wonton dough. I like to tell stories like this to expands my audience mind about food and culture and that everyone is acceptable through food. Another reason for my passion and creativity I ask my self a lot of why questions. Why is French influence in creole cosines? Why is there a cuisine called Tex-Mex? In Panama why did I see a lot of Lebanese influence in their cuisine? Could it be due to the building of the Panama Canal? Research and take that information and create something mind-blowing.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I believe if you are passionate about what you are doing and accomplishing every goal you set, that’s the meaning of success. In addition, if all goals are met but you find yourself adding more goals to challenge yourself, consider yourself very very successful.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Every month I host my event at Frisco Fine Arts gallery in Frisco, TX. You can stay in the loop and find out when is the next pop up event by checking out Frisco Fine Arts website and social media pages as well as my Instagram page.
