Art & Life with Jada Dodd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Dodd.

Jada, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Life was fairly normal for me until I hit age 12 when my dad left. As a product of divorced parents, I had to grow up quick and learn a lot about life on my own. I didn’t realize how much not having both parents in the same household could affect me. Throughout my teenage years, I dealt with depression and anxiety, but I didn’t know how to handle it all. My thoughts and emotions were always repressed because I felt like if I shared any negative part of my life with others, then I would become a burden. After I turned 21, I started to realize that I needed to focus more on myself and my self-worth. It took a few years, but I feel as though I am finally on the right path to a healthy and somewhat stable mentality. Being creative has been a HUGE part of my mental health journey, and I would encourage everyone to find what truly makes them happy to help with their mental health. It’s important to take care of and love yourself. That’s something that I wish I would have learned a long time ago.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Photography has always been a big part of my life. I first picked up a camera when I was five years old and have loved it ever since. Photography has been an important way for me to escape when life is getting me down, and I feel like the entire world is on my shoulders. Over the years, I have seen myself improve with my work, and it is my greatest joy in life. Photography is also very important to me because I love to see others happy, especially when I help them achieve that happiness through a photo. Photography is my life, my escape, and will always be my first true love.

I hope that people see my pictures and appreciate the time and effort it takes into getting a great photo. I am nowhere near where I want to be, but I am extremely happy with how far I have come with my work. I never try to be like other photographers. Finding my own way to take photos and edit has been the most fulfilling part of my photography. I just hope that I can bring a smile to peoples faces and get as many positive reactions as possible when people see my work.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success is whenever you feel like you have achieved your goals. It’s not about money or fame or popularity. It’s about YOUR personal goals and where you want to be in life. Once you get to where you are truly 100% happy, then that’s when you are successful. Don’t let other people tell you what you need to do in order to be successful. When you have your mind set to something, don’t let anyone get in your way, Not even yourself.
