Today we’d like to introduce you to Janeth Alvarez.
Janeth, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
As a mother of four, I often found myself crafting my way through birthday parties, but it wasn’t until my son Sebastian was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, that crafting became my life. (Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening disorder known to affect the lungs and digestive system). Life became difficult soon after his diagnosis. I had to leave my job, become a stay at home mom and spent most of my days in and out of the hospital. I fell into depression and found myself crying every single day. A few months later, I offered to create some paper flowers for a friend’s party. I had no idea what I was doing but I needed something to keep my mind off things. One flower after the other, I started to feel at peace and realized how creativity lend greater meaning to my life. I shared pictures of my flowers on social media and it didn’t take long for friends and family to request a set of their own. A few months later, someone offered to pay me for a set of flowers and that’s when Lu’s Flower Decor was born.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create flowers made of cardstock paper for all kinds of events. Weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties or even home decor. I offer other items too, like birthday banners, cake toppers, maternity belts, shadow boxes, wooden pallets, flower pens or just about anything made of paper. I even offer backdrop rentals that are custom made to match your theme or party decor. Lets just say, I create just about anything to fulfill a client’s request through their vision and my passion with paper, scissors and some glue!
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what quality do you feel is most helpful?
I strongly believe that success isn’t just hard work and dedication. Success is about showing and sharing your passion, taking chances, being creative and setting yourself apart… but most importantly, it’s about believing in yourself.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
