Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvester Jones Jr.
Sylvester, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born and raised in Stop Six of Fort Worth, Tx. I got my start in entertainment in a social group known as The Original Kings Kids. The Kings Kids was founded my PE teacher at the time Ms. Charmion Polk. The Kings Kids were a group of boys and girls that studied the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and our black heritage through music throughout the yr. I was 11 years old and singing in the Kings Kids choir as well as being one of the main speakers that recited one of Dr. Kings speeches. We as a group was traveling across the states and performing for different events and celebrities including all of Dr. Kings children and his wife Coretta Scott King.
I was introduced to the saxophone by my grandfather Wesley Hatcher Jr. at 12 years old. I learned and played sax all through middle school, high school, and college. I’ve since been playing, performing, and recording professionally. The past 8 years I’ve played in high profile cover bands doing high profile shows as well as develop my own business and entertainment company Vintage Perspective. I am currently working to release music of my own and start more music-based businesses.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a professional full-time musician. I’m a Texas tenor sax player. I compose, arrange, and I am a private horn instructor in Southlake, Tx. at Halls Music Production Studio. I perform solo sax shows as well as duet, trio, and quartet appearances. I believe music is the universal language that speaks clearly to everyone. One of my most recent and fun creations is my mobile live music and massage therapy luxury services. I also offer other musical services including custom pop up saxophone serenades for any occasion. The main message I want everybody to take from me learn to turn your dreams into accomplished visions. Remember “when you shoot for the moon you’ll hit stars”. We should be able to have a passion and drive for something in our lives that will provide a way to better ways of thinking, living, and enjoying life. My artwork will continue to grow in ways we can all benefit in some way positively.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Do what you can without the finances. Focus on your art and stay connected with all available resources and the money will come. Stay relevant with your art and always continue sharpening your skill you have to stay ready for whatever. Learn business because there are too many creative artists that are not business oriented.

Sylvester Jones, Jr. Is one of the best human beings to ever walk this earth ! He is truly a great friend , father , husband and God- fearing man that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. His musicianship puts him in a league with a very exclusive list of members here in the DFW area. Awesome dude and all around great guy. Great article and thank you for introducing him to those that haven’t had the opportunity to meet him
