Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Dawson.
Theresa, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was really into art in high school. President of the art club etc. graduated in 1980. I went through with what was expected in life. Marriage, children, work… Art took a back seat in my life for a very long time. It wasn’t until 2016 when I lost my sister and my mother within two months of each other that I had so many emotions to deal with that I decided to pick up a brush once again. Children are grown, I’m a stay at home ranch caretaker/artist now! I used art as therapy in the beginning, now I do it for the pleasure.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m all over the board with my art from skulls to acrylics and pastels. I loved to paint what I think is beautiful and creative. I hope people see the beauty I do in my work and know that no matter what happens in life you can prevail.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
To me success is just getting my work out there. Luck is when people actually buy it. I love getting feedback so that I can better improve myself. Join groups, get yourself out there and enjoy the world of art!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I currently have my work at the Lost Pines Art Center in historic downtown Bastrop. I also have a large piece that was juried and selected in the top 8 acrylic’s that is currently on display at the Bastrop Convention Center.
